Italian wars skirmish rules wanted
« on: 21 June 2017, 12:38:33 PM »
I'm after some suggestions for a set of skirmish rules to use for the intimate fights etc for the Von Trinkenessen Chronicles ,got the battles sorted.
Initially I thought about using Mordheim empire ablaze but would welcome any suggestions for a set of fairly fast playing fun rules.
the only ones I've got is an old set that creaks along at a pre1990 pace too many actions in a minute.....

I would whole heartedly suggest Lion Rampant.

Mentioning Mordheim, I take it you are after rules with individual models (rather than units) and a dozen figures or so per side? En Garde should do the trick - very flexible for scenario play as well as in terms of equipment and skills the various characters and troops could have.

I'd tentatively second En Garde. I have the rules and have read them several times, but have yet to play against a live opponent, our first game is next week. So far I'm very impressed, they feel good in solo tests of the mechanisms. I'm sure they will be a bit clunky at first, but think that they will speed up after a couple of games.

Yeah, En Garde or Donnybrook seems to be what you're after. Or the ever-fitting solution of Advanced Song of Blades and Heroes. :)

I was thinking of using Frostgrave for Italian Renaissance skirmish where the bands are searching through old Roman ruins.

Donnybrook would work well however it depends on the level of combat you are after in terms of detail as in duelling etc or small groups of figures, Lion rampant would work too for small companies also
