Your Pike & Shotte game must have been great! An AAR would be more than welcome!
We played a Spanish paychest convoy that had to cross the table into a village. The convoy was defended by a bit of cavalry, 4 battalias and 2 field guns. They were ambushed by Dutch troops with heavy artillery and masses of cavalry and a similar number of infantry.
The Dutch commander played his cards right. His heavy artillery disordered my foot and horse and his infantry advanced. His cavalry was positioned just so that they would cut off the convoy on the last stretch to the village.
It yielded mixed successes. One of my battalias and one of my horse squadrons were disordered most of the game and useless. The convoy made good speed. My remaining battalias formed and held the line in front of the convoy and my remaining horse squadron caught a Dutch battalia in column and destroyed it completely before withdrawing. But all that would have been in vain had the Dutch cavalry reached the convoy. Alas! They refused to budge and kept discussing the exact moment, speed and direction of their charge for the entire game right until the convoy entered the village and was safe!
