Had a great game of "Dark Age" variant of Lion Rampant.

Many pictures plus commentary here:

Crossfire in 1/72, Darwin Tabletop Gamers. Playtesting a homebrew 'Crete' scenario for the first time. The two FJ companies were four sheets to the wind upon initial deployment, and had to reach their drop canisters to radio for support/reinforcement. After a horrendous start, the match tightened up. A section reached the canister and called in a recoilless rifle which caused some casualties. But eventually one German flank collapsed and the paras were mopped up by a relentless Aussie bayonet charge. I love playing Crossfire, even when I lose horribly. It's kind of like a stripped-down-punk-rock war-game.

It's using the same basic mechanics as A Gentleman's War tweaked a bit to better reflect Knights in shining armour, brave men at arms and dusty peasants.

Played an impromptu pulp game a nearly a fortnight ago .I got carried away with actually fitting in a game .I forgot to mention it here. It turned into a blood bath of ignored and forgotten rules but fun none the less.

Nope a fleece throw .(£3.99 on ebay.)
Really fun for naval games as you can leave a wake in the fur as your ships move across the table.Gives. the feel of those old battle maps you used to get in history books. Plus there no effort to store.
TWD.
Nothing better than propper hammer on square base .Its nice to see sensible sized units(and Dwarfs to boot.). I had a crack at playing the new twaddle 87 D6 for one unit of orks! I couldn't make up my mind if it's a ploy to sell more dice or bore you to death.Definitely not for me.

Our second game using the Lion Rampant rules. Again a great game. This time the Carthaginians even deployed war elephants!  :o

Thank you.

I had a similar 40K Ork experience not long ago - 67 dice rolled (and re-rolled) to remove 3 models.

TBF Warhammer has always been a "buckets of dice" game, though I think the removal of the guiding hand of Rick means that rolling (and re-rolling) has replaced some of the more nuanced bits of the original game design.

My dislike of AoS isn't the dice mechanic though - it is (or was on first release when i dabbled for a few games) a serviceable little skirmish game. It's just I don't want a serviceable little skirmish game there are plenty of those kicking about - I want Warhammer (and before anyone tries, spare me the "Warhammer was only really a skirmish game" guff) with units and ranks and stuff.
But perhaps *MOST* importantly I want the richness of the WFB background (stolen and re-purposed though most of it may have been) that's what I want to play games in.
Round based skirmish game with a background no deeper than puddle after a swift summer shower - no thanks  >:(
