You can go about "Hidden Deployment" in two different ways:

1/ Put a screen down the entire table and then deploy, blind to how your opponent deploys.

2/ Draw maps, stick to it, and you are also blind to how your opponent deploys.

It produces some very interesting games as most historical commanders of any given era would not have known all that there was to know about there opponents army and would have deployed "blind". Maybe not sully but we have scenarios for out scouting etc too.

Hope that helps?

Talking of hidden movement -

I’ve managed to persuade two LAF stalwarts, Vagabond ("Vaggers") and Mad Lord Snapcase, to play my favourite board game, Flat Top, I haven’t been able to play this since the seventies so it’s something of a nostalgia-fest for me. Vaggers and Snappers have generously (and bravely) agreed to take part, probably to humour the old boy (me).

Mad Lord Snapcase is in command of the USN as Admiral Fletcher. flying his flag aboard Saratoga, whilst Vagabond as Vice Admiral Nagumo takes the IJN. I’m the totally impartial umpire. Dispositions, orders etc will all be done via WhatsApp or emails and the game will feature hidden movement with all orders and operations being implemented through me. Play covers the crucial, carrier dominated battles in the pacific. Finding the enemy then organising air strikes will pose many problems and require a deal of organising as planes have to be launched, recovered, re-armed while also protecting their own fleets with Combat Air Patrols. The two admirals are just finalising their preparations and the action is about to start.

I apologise for introducing a board game topic to LAF but I’m so excited at the prospect of playing it again, I had to tell someone😀.

For one horrible moment, I thought I’d posted a photo of the map with units on but, sigh of relief, the only counters are base markers. Phew…!

Not a game but the background to a story concept ;)

Vagabond in the South China Seas.....maybe :)

Inspired by Bob Murch's China Station, have a look on the Pulp board for the original and best China Station I've seen.
