New Brigade Games Napoleonic Spanish and French 28mm Minis
« on: July 12, 2017, 02:09:50 AM »
More Spanish Napoleonic goodies from Paul Hicks in the shape or regular cavalry (line and dragoons), guerrilla lancers and infantry in British-made uniforms :

The Hickster's also added of pack of 1807-1814 fusiliers in full dress to the French range :

They look great - how do they match up with Front Rank / Perry in height and bulk? And where can you buy them in the UK? It used to be North Star Games but apparently no longer.

Beautiful stuff, and with all due respect to other ranges I can't recall seeing better French fusiliers.

With all respect to the Perries Mr Hicks does seem to get a lot more character into his faces - I appreciate their change in style since they were at Foundry and like it very much but I prefer their Foundry faces. Much easier for me to paint than their more recent output.

One question on the French above - the bayonet sheath appears to be on their right hip rather than the usual left, is there a reason for this?

I am in agreement, since the Perry twins switched over to the more generic ''massed battle'' look I find them less appealing, I find though that minis with facial hair tend to look better than any of their clean shaven offerings.

One more question....my understanding was that the shako plate on the French fusiliers above didn't become regulation until 1812 - prior to that was the diamond shape plate. I can see how there would have been an overlap as stores were used up etc post 1812. Was the 1812 pattern plate simply confirming something that was already common practice?

I don't really care about this when painting my 18mm ABs as the shako plate is discernible but so small it doesn't matter but I think mixing these with other makers would be a bit more problematic in the larger scale. I'm willing to be educated but would these not be better described as 1812-1814 French?

It was. The lozenge-shaped plate was the regulation item before the new Bardin uniform was introduced in 1812 but the eagle-over-crescent plate was used by many regiments before that date - from 1809-1810 at least.

Thanks Arthur. They are very nice indeed but their lack of a UK agent is a bit of a handicap. I'm pretty heavily invested in 18mm ABs but I could be tempted by the Spanish...

I bought a bunch of these from Lon at Historicon last week - excellent figures, superb casting!

Right now Brigade Games has one of the best Spanish Napoleonic ranges in the market. The only thing lacking to make it perfect is that the Dollar is still too strong against the Euro!  :'( :'(

Well, the Euro has been picking up against the US dollar over the past few weeks, so the exchange rate may favour European customers again soon.

Excellent figures and very tempting! Brigade has loads of figures I would buy from a wide range of periods / genres but the last time I bought from the USA, British customs clobbered me with a surcharge that was almost as much as the figures cost.

I dodged the surcharge but the exchange rate was...painful.
