Cereal packet Submarine.
« on: July 15, 2017, 06:49:59 PM »
Okay its not actually a copy of anyone submarine.
It's more of a chimera of around eight different WW1 submarines from several Navy's of the time.

Why?
Because I wanted a submarine that work with Pulp,ww1, ww2,and at a push vsf.
Since HMS H6. Was still on the go in 1944.(okay not flying an Ensign and pointing the wrong way .but on the go non the less.)

I've had that rare gift of a Saturday afternoon to myself, and thought its as good a time as any to build it.
Ran short of time ,so its only 80% or so painted.(metallics, sharing, tri colour highlights etc.)
I've posted now so ,I can keep motivated to finish it. As its a that 'one day' stage at the moment.

Mark.

Lovely work Mark. Your sub certainly covers the scope mentioned for gaming.

Have fun. :)
Best wishes,
Helen

Interesting design!
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

Zowie!

And yes, very interesting design. A bit of everything in there.

I really like that, especially after reading why you chose to make a non-existant pulp sub!

Managed to do a little snagging this afternoon.

It's always a risk when you build a generic model, that no one gets what your aiming for. So I'm more than chuffed that one of my mad half day cunning plans actually turned out okay and that someone else gets it.
So a big thanks to one and all.

Andy it just sort of fell together only required one recut and a little dancing.I'd like to say its a difficult build that took hours, it didn't . It was one of those 'ooh I knows moments.

DivisMal.

There is another reason for choosing WW1 subs as a starting point. They simply sit on the surface differently to WW2 subs.
There's a lot less deck than Later subs. So you can build a lot smaller model.

No James it right.( he's a grown up model maker by day too.)

What he really wanted to say is- what a load of bovine effluent. It's just a cylinder on top of a box it didn't nearly need half that time.
And he's right .
The only grown up bit of model engineering is hidden in plain sight.
I spent the majority of the afternoon drinking tea sat in the garden enjoying the peace waiting for paint to dry.
There's no real reason you can't knock up a basic card sub and have it game ready in two and a half hours, if you keep the paint as simple as the first pictures.(if you use a hair dryer on the paint)
This one is undercoated grey and shaded there's no actual painting other than the dark grey camo panels.
The waters just two neat inks with white paint drawn through each ink then left to dry.

Mark.
