Rubicon WWII Jeep Kit 1/56th Scale
« on: July 25, 2017, 02:43:34 PM »
I purchased three of the new Rubicon Jeep kit, one American and two British. I built the American version first as I needed a generic recon jeep. The same jeep sprues are found in both kits, the only difference is the crews. Four GIs in the American kit, and 2 LRDG and 2 SAS/Airborne crews in the British kit. I found these to be quick and straight forward builds and probably didn't take any more time to build these than a resin kit. Well worth the money I really recommend these.

There are more pictures and some ramblings about the kits in these two postings on my blog:

Very nice. I was eyeing off the boxes in a local store yesterday. I like Rubicon's stuff but $34 for a single jeep and $27 for a motorcycle and sidecar is a bit fucking steep.

I know exchange rates are odd, but PSC advertises them for £15 and £12 respectively (no idea what shipping is like).

Thanks, Heisler.

No transparent parts for the windscreen, then?

That still works out at the better part of $25 AUD without the postage for the jeep and about $20 for the bike.  Definitely cheaper but.....

By comparison, I can get the Tamiya 1/48 bike and sidecar for around $17.

Ive just made the new BMW R75 M/C and sidecar for the DAK. Lovely little kit. Fiddly, but extremely well designed and with some nice options...
The jeep looks good too.

Pricing is hard. The jeeps are $24 in the US and most of the resin/metal jeeps available are at least $20 so its a good price from my standpoint.

Thanks, Heisler.

Afraid not.  :(

I just bought two from Caliver books for £13.50 each. They're lovely little models and I'm a big fan of Rubicon in general. Tho gotta say those crewmen look really small compared to my 28mm US Army troops

Yes, like the Perry N Africa range, the Rubicon figures are true 1/56 scale, so they will look very slight alongside chunky 28mm metals. Very good match for the Perry range though. I'm hybridising the Rubicon DAK m/c and sidecar riders with some Perry DAK components. Works a treat :)

This I would love to see - I got a couple of the Rubicon bikes last week, very nice they are too.  I believe a Kettenkrad is in the works also.

They look nice, but now I have seen the price for the jeep/sidecar etc, they do seem way too expensive. Maybe they could have done boxes with 2 or 3 in to reduce cost per vehicle?

The prices depends on where you are.

PSC do multi-box deals, reducing the the price to £13.33 each for the jeeps and £10.66 each for the bikes.

Other deals are available.

Admittedly exchange rates are an issue elsewhere (and are based on the golden - or at least not toilet paper - days of Sterling).
