Your Siege Rules of Choice?
« on: 31 July 2017, 10:20:29 PM »
I'd like to revisit a log outpost I started building a while back and finish it off, but having tried in recent weeks to take a more practical, game-oriented approach to my terrain, I figured I should take into account the rules I'll be using in a game.  While I already know I'd like to use Lion/Dragon Rampant for skirmishes, and To The Strongest or Impetus for larger actions, I'm not sure if I'll need another set for Sieges.  What rules have you had success/fun with when gaming sieges? Thanks  :)

I have played Lion Rampant sieges with a few different rules twists.

It can actually be handled quite nice by the standard rules. Castle walls count as rough terrain obstacle and cover.

We assumed all attacking units had ladders or grapnel hooks.

We gave the walls and gates armour 4 and a suitable number of hitpoints that way you could make breaches that would only count as rough terrain.

We tried once that you could only fight with half strength when attacking a wall and that it would take two activations to get the full unit across a wall. But we found that to be to difficult for the attackers.

Never played them, but Warhammer Ancients had Siege & Conquest

I think WAB Sieg&Conquest is the grown up version of Siege for Warhammer 3rd Edition. It is easier to handle and better to play. Siege for the 3rd Edition was very complex and a Game in the game. Tried it several times, but it was hard to handle. Often forget something and players slowly drove away in conversation about the hottest figures around. But when yu want it detailed get a copy of Siege for the 3rd:

Upps, I forgot this:
Try to read the despriction of Hail Cesar and Pike&Shot, in one of the books (rules and Supplements) they had short, but interesting Siege-Rules. I think it is the ECW-Supplement for P&S, but I cannot have a look in the moment.

Warhammer siege made for a very involved game. I bought it mainly for Ian Miller's illustrations  lol

If you don't need it right now then maybe see how the Age of sigmar siege rules look when the new generals handbook comes out?
