Bronze Green Spray Paint?
« on: August 15, 2017, 06:30:02 PM »
Can anyone recommend a spray paint that will make a good base coat for early war British armour?  Has anyone tried Tamiya TS-9 (British Green)?

Not quite sure if this matches what you are after but I used Citadel Caliban Green for my Carden Lloyd MMG carrier.

This is one of the armoured cars at Bovington.

I believe TS-9 is probably ok as a starting point. The PSC British Armour green is good & vague enough that it could pass (once shading & highlights are added), but I don't know of a rattlecan with the 'right' colour (which, early war, could also be Khaki Green No.3 or Dark Green No.4). If you've got an airbrush, Mig Ammo do a good KG3 - you can apply it with a brush, but it will require a couple of coats.
For a Bronze Green Primer, there's the Vallejo 607 UK Bronze Green, their primers give pretty good coverage, even when brushed on.
Mike Starmer's MAFVA site is useful, but unfortunately is limited paint-recommendation wise to enamels.

To save steps, I always prime in the base color so the rattle-can is a must.  Given differences in application & fading, "could pass" is good enough for me.

Thanks!

Both of these are PSC British Tank spray paint.

The M5A1 has more Citadel Ahead Earthshade.
