Wonder if I should stop visiting LAF
« on: 20 August 2017, 08:08:50 AM »
I know I should. Since I started visiting the forum regularly I have been like a wargamer with Deficit Attention Syndrome. Each new thread gives me dozen of ideas for new armies, new painting techniques, new periods to collect! My pile of lead and plastic is growing again, while my visa is going fast into intensive care! So many great stuff...

Maybe I should look for professional care to treat my addiction!!  :)

I can cure you my friend!!!
Parcel up your entire lead/plastic mountain and send it off to Happy Harry's Reetirement Home for DAS Inducing Naughties (HHRHDIN). This is the first step on the road to salvation, the second is...

"My name is Antonio I am a DASaholic, Harry is my friend!"

Visit LAF more often.

Find more and learn more.

Apply that more and new learning to what you have, not what you might get.

Basically find ways to apply your knowledge to the existing pile.

But visit more to develop your immunity to buying more and more - harden yourself through exposure.

Also, remember as you age, you forget what you already have, digging through the lead pile often unearths amazing finds, that your current self had no idea that your younger self purchased - usually several of them, at different times (usually also in different strata layers of the pile, so you may not discover all of them at the same time of excavation.

Then you can revise your plans and apply your new knowledge to the forgotten depths of your pile.

As you do this you will achieve completion of some projects and eventually be able to buy new ones later as you have improved your skills and own knowledge.

Through this you can then feed back to the LAF pictures and ideas of your own, and through doing so, ruin the financial situations of others instead of yourself - this also can give a sense of satisfaction and achievement.

Alternatively stick with Harry's suggestion, its simpler and later, you can check back here and on his blog to see what he did with all your donations...

It's a common enough problem  :)

Actually, for a few people, it does become a serious problem. I know of at least a couple of people who have ended up spending so much time frequenting all the main wargaming forums, that they end up spending their whole time online talking about what they're going to do, and their actual output and / or gaming activity has halted completely.
That really is a type of compulsion / addiction, and if you ever find that's happening, it's probably really time to get offline for a while...

For most people, like most things in life, it's just finding the balance. And knowing when to stop.

Speaking of which...

;)

 lol

I have found myself spending way too much online contemplating, rather than building. You must remain FOCUSED!!  o_o

So far it has have a beneficial effect, because although I have spent too much, I have also painted a lot of stuff. Actually, my productivity has increased in the last three months: 24 Warlord Macedonian pikemen, 12 GB Dark Ages archers, 12 Aventine Auxiliary Infantry, 10 Footsore Late Romans, 6 Horcata Thirty Years War musketeers, 8 Iron Duke Neill's Bluecaps for the Indian Mutiny... As you see a chaotic schedule, but at least thus I can assure myself of not becoming bored in a single project and move forward in several at the same time!  lol

I stick to visiting the topics that coincide with the ongoing projects - so right now it's WW2 & Ancients.

I hear you man.

I try to think back on how much stuff I have purchased and periods I have gotten into because of what I have seen here and other sites.
I know for sure that I just started John Carter on Mars because someone posted it here on LAF. Had never even thought of doing that.
Then... saw the post and I HAD TOO! I guess it is all part of being a gamer.

My problem is not buying new stuff - ok thats not quite true - but it's having to go back to stuff that is finished but is now no longer good enough having seen the standards that are achieved on here, even if I can reach these standards I have to try and raise my game. o_o o_o :'( :'(

Ah! I have posted only 90 here  ;D You should see my stats in other forums!  lol

PS: but I like more and more LAF. It is the forum with less "noise" of all. It is devoted to miniatures and miniatures related stuff, and that's it.

Know what you mean. Came over to LAF from a different site.
So nice here, no drama no nasty stuff. Ah, peace, quiet and wargaming!
