Looking for (heroic) 28mm shock mauls
« on: August 20, 2017, 02:05:22 PM »
I'm looking for some shock/power mauls for my 28mm space cops (based upon Anvil Industry's Republic Commandos, completed figures so far at the top of page 2 in this post: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=91726.msg1249176#msg1249176 )

I'm aware of Mad Robot's shock mauls, but was wondering if anyone knows of any other manufacturers who make them in ~28mm, and /or know a good way to scratchbuild/convert them.

Any help or pointers would be much appreciated.

For my Necromunda Arbites, I've used the following method:

I took a Space Marine Chainsword arm, and cut off the chainsword, leaving the handguard. I then pinned a length of 2mm plastic rod to the hand, and used a shorter length of matching plastic tubing to fit snugly over the end of the rod.

This was then capped with a 3mm plastic rivet head from the Tichy Train Group (but any (semi)spherical bit could be used of course).

I also planned to add some wires glued to the rod, but in the end didn't bother. Still; it could work to add some more detail and I still might revisit them at a later date (they're not painted yet anyway; it's one of those projects... ::) ).

Once I get home tonight I'll take a picture to show the result :)

I think the Max Mini ones look a bit too Space-Marine scaled for my mere human cops, but thank-you.  Daeothar, that scratch building method looks like it might work nicely.  I probably won't use a full SM arm, but the hand/handguard could still work as a good starting point in conjunction with rod/tube.

Thank-you for the suggestions.

The link is named "chain swords" but the page is "shock maces".

If you Google "power maul" or "shock maul" you will have quite a few reference pics to choose/use from.

Thanks for the further pointers.  What size are the Victoria Miniatures ones?  They look like they could be a bit too Space Marine-sized, but to counter that her stuff is mostly for regular human sized not-Guard, so maybe they'd be what I'm looking for.  (Maybe I just need to bite the bullet & order the female Victorian Guard figures I've been thinking about, just to make it worth the postage for a set of those shock maces, just in case they're the right size...)

Failing that, Daeothar, your scratch build looks pretty good as well.
