Belgian Platoon Organisation 1918
« on: August 22, 2017, 06:32:59 PM »

Hi there

I was wondering if anyone had any idea of how a Belgian platoon was organised in 1918? I'm going to have a go at converting some for use in Through the Mud and Blood (and this new Great War Chain of Command), but my googling for the answer has brought me no luck. I think I might have read somewhere that they followed French practice, although it seems that a lot of armies platoon structures went out of the window in 1918 with losses, plus the change away from trench warfare (ditching some of the rifle grenadiers, etc). Perhaps the Belgians did likewise...

If any one knows the answer, or can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful.

Cheers
Adam

Adam, you can run with the late-war French platoon structure. The French army suffered heavy casualties throughout the war but the Belgian army had suffered most of its casualties in the opening weeks. It wasn't fully involved in major offensives again until the latter weeks of the Last 100 Days, when the Germans began withdrawing from Belgium.
