Acacia tree terrain
« on: 23 August 2017, 03:59:04 AM »
I just completed making these acacia's on commission. I've always wanted to do some.  Really the main focus for these would be Sudan and all Africa gaming but thorn trees crop up just about everywhere (I recently fell into one mountain biking in NZ..)

I made these in the shapes they are to fit into a nice compact storage crate.

Didn't have my Sudan minis to had to dressed the scene with Indian Mutiny and some very nice Perry Fallscrimjaeger. So India and Crete.

Enjoy!

Wow! Really impressive! How did you do it? I am guessing that the trunks are wire twisted and covered with green stuff or some similar epoxy, but the canopy? That is what makes the trick!

Thanks, glad you like them.

Indeed they are steel and aluminium wire of differing thickness, bound with hot melt and acrylic. They still have some flexibility. The shape is the crucial thing you need to get right. I printed off dozens of acacia images at scale to act as a template as I was twisting.

The tops are based on rubberised coconut fibre. The flock is hand made, meaning I was able to colour match to my acacia images.

When I get the next commission I'll do a breakdown in pics.
