LVR-Archaeological Park & Roman Museum, Xanten
« on: September 08, 2017, 08:46:21 PM »
Whilst on a summer holiday to Holland this August, we popped over the border with Germany to visit the Roman museum and park at Xanten or better known to the Romans as Colonia Ulpia Traiana.

This is part one of a two part post showing some of the amazing collection of military artefacts discovered in the area.

That is an impressive looking exhibit, really interesting things on display. I teach an Art History course and for some reason the Roman phallus preoccupation always comes up, interesting to see the cavalry ornaments.
a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

Yes, they have some nice stuff there.

As a student I worked there for a couple of weeks and what was most amazing: we were allowed to sleep inside the park in the reconstructed Roman hostel and were even allowed to use the Roman bath!

Very nice place.
