My growing Pict warband
« on: September 15, 2017, 10:13:05 PM »
After buying a Pict warband at Adepticon, I was looking for any reason to paint these superb figures.  Any reason turned out to be SAGA Storm,  a day of SAGA played in a park.  This year's theme is Dark Age warbands only so I painted my Picts to double as Scots.  Footsore is hands down my favorite Dark Age line.  I've painted their Late Romans, Picts, and the Early Saxons are on the bench.  Do I get a badge if I paint all factions?

I said it before on Facebook and I'll say it again. These guys look fantastic! Far more vibrant than my painting, which is a bit more dreary to fit with the theme, but boy are they beautiful! One could almost say Captain Blood-esque!

Very nice. Well done on the painting. I really do need to add these to my Dark Ages collection... just waiting on the chariots and horsemen from Footsore to come out before I take the plunge...  :)

I've picked up pretty much everything I need for a Dux Brit Pict army except those as well. Now that Bill has the horses ready to go, I don't think the Pict cav is too far off and I believe he talked about a chariot relatively soon too. He cranks stuff out pretty quickly, that Bill guy.

Fingers crossed for some more Byzantine-esque stuff and some Sassanids or Huns too. I'm pretty hopeful based off of some of the info they've been putting out :-)

Really fan myself of Footsore dark age miniatures, and your minis does them great justice.
Now, just as the Captain, I'm waiting for more stuff such as chariots....

Thanks fellows!  My Dark Ages painting plans are updated with each Footsore announcement.  I understand they're releasing Vikings later this year (?) and after that, Normans are coming.  I'm anxiously awaiting the Pict warlord in a chariot and mounted Irish to be used as Picts too.  My employer should probably make an automatic deduction from my paycheck and send it to Footsore.   :)

I've made good progress buffing my Pict Warband for SAGA.  The crossbowmen are by Footsore as are the War Hounds.  The chariot is by Warlord Games to tide me over until Footsore releases their own Pict warlord chariot.  I was going to put a Footsore model in there but the nude figure was so dynamic I kept him.  From his pose, he's either yelling orders or getting ready to dive straight in.  The Roman Villa is by Sarissa Precision.  The Celtic stones and cross are by Fenris Games...all fabulous stuff! Now that I have all options for my Picts, its time for Early Saxons.

Splendid work all round. I love your painting style - the use of vivid colours really makes the figures "pop". And my God, a travelling barber could make a fortune with these chaps!

Really, really lovely stuff, Monty. The crossbowmen and the chariot are my favourites.

BTW, off-topic but wanted to thank you for posting that tutorial on speed painting 15mm Marian Romans awhile ago, I followed your technique and it made the painting go a lot faster and they look good on the tabletop. So thanks for that.
You go to war with the figures you have, not the figures you wish you had!

Thanks fellows! Richard, I'm glad you found the tutorial useful.  I recently used that method to finish a 15mm Gallic army.
