Converting plastic Perry heads
« on: September 25, 2017, 07:58:30 PM »
I've been separating bevors from sallets...

Over the 5 Perry Miniatures plastic WOTR boxes there are lots of different helmets... But I want more!

I've heard it said (can't remember if it was on here or Michael Perry himself when I chatted with him at Salute) that there are only so many ways they can sculpt a Sallet helmet, but I disagree..... Open, closed, visored, with or without bevor (the lower face / throat piece).... Many more combinations I'd love to see on their plastic kits.

So I had a little brain wave and had a go at converting some myself.

The join between visor and bevor can be cut very cleanly, and the lower parts swapped around. So bevors can be added to heads previously without bevors. They can also be added just as easily to the various deep kettle helms with eye slits. And of course the 'naked' lower faces can be added to helmets which previously had bevors.

Conveniently there is one head in particular that I don't really like that much, and have loads of spares of, as it is on both the Foot Knights and Mounted Men At Arms sprues - it's the sallet/bevor combo with the feather. So that's provided me with lots of spare bevors (as has the Richard III crowned sallet head which I've never used, and have several spares of).

Here's what I came up with!!!

Now I just need to wait for a new Mounted M@A box to be delivered so I can make some new heavy cavalry to put these heads on.

Great idea. So simple, but changes up the look of the heads very well.

I once tried to count how many different heads there are in those boxes, and the result was around 71 - though not all of those are wearing helmets.

That said, thanks for the tip - I guess I will keep it in mind the next time I need some more heads with plumed helmets and bevors.
