Blackhawk Game
« on: 06 October 2017, 03:37:30 AM »
Oct. 3th and 4th Day of the Ranger. The Sunday before (Oct. 1st) I ran a game for 4 friends.
The set up was each player had eight or nine figures in two fire teams
Two fire teams of delta, two fire teams of Rangers plus one NCO
Also a ground element of six HumVees and two 5 ton trucks. Each player controlled 2 vehicles.
The Mog, before helo's show up. The vehicles will come on the lower left hand corner.
<a href="https:
The Helos over the target. Commanders were told when in the air that the target house has a blue SUV parked in front of it.
Then they noticed that there were two blue SUVs. Change of plan.

One of the players wrote up an excellent AAR so I will quote much of what he wrote.
"The game started with us flying in from the airport in helicopters. Preston was able to fast rope down on his target roof top with both of his Delta teams on Game Turn One. The other three of us took another Game Turn to  reach our target roof tops. Preston and Robert landed on buildings that we thought would give us a chance to  control the streets around what we thought was the primary objective.

"Jeff landed on the primary objective while I landed on the secondary. We were trying to capture a group of arms dealers and were not sure which of the two buildings they were actually in."
D-boys on the roof to cover two areas of the street.

Jeff's rangers on the roof of the primary building.
Unknown to him, the arms dealers were on the first floor.

To continue the AAR.
"Preston stayed on his roof top and fired at any Somalis that showed their faces until the convoy arrived to evac us. Jeff also stayed on his roof top for a couple of Game Turns to fire at Somalis that randomly entered near his location. Robert started out doing the same, but on Game Turn 3 stated clearing his building to get to the ground floor. He could still control the streets around his building from there and would be in a better position to withdraw upon the convoy's arrival."

Part of the ground element on the move. The US commanders still did not know for sure what building housed the arms dealers.

Somalis on the move.  (left top and behind the white car.)
"My chalk (Bill's men)was more isolated and I wasted no time in clearing my building from the top down so I could move to the primary objective as quickly as possible. Both Robert and I cleared our third floors without incident but ran into Somalis on the second floor. It cost us a seriously wounded man each to eliminate about three Somalis each. I then cleared the ground floor without incident. That was important as we then knew that Jeff's building contained our targets. Robert got into a struggle with at least four groups (of about 6 Somalis each) as they randomly responded to our landing. Robert had two men lightly wounded and a fatality before the trucks arrived to evac us."

Gun trucks  control the streets.

Jeff has cleared two levels of the building. The shoot out with the arms dealers and their body guards.
When the smoke cleared, Jeff had killed all but two of the bad guys. They were captured.

Mean while the Somalis were attacking the gun trucks with some success.(yellow rings show wounded.)

Somalis on the move. About is time, the US players started using Little Birds in ground attacks with a lot of success.
"During the above action, Robert, then I and finally Jeff called in Little Birds one at a time to strafe various groups of approaching Somalis.
The first couple of gun runs allowed us to secure our rear while we set up to evac. Jeff would then use a couple of passes to open the way back so we could evac by wheel."

Troops moving to the trucks.

"While all this was happening our 6 HUMVEEs held the return route open while my pair of trucks moved as rapidly as possible to thr rally point in front of Jeff's building. Jeff, Robert and I loaded our wounded (I had suffered a second serious wounded man) and the prisoners on one truck. Robert and I loaded a team each on the other truck while Jeff's chalk and my trailing team moved towards the HUMVEEs on foot."

D-boys move to the HUMVEEs.

While most of the other troopers are on the trucks.

Little Bird on a gun run.
"Jeff's chalk moved via the street while my team moved through the market to awaiting HUMVEEs that were shooting the daylights out of any Somalis that tried to interfere. We got everyone loaded and started out."
At this time I stopped the game as the Somalis could not stop the US from getting off the table.
Also, I will be able to setup part two  of the game.
"We have a Blackhawk down in the city."

The rules are a set of rules I wrote for the game.
Written around 2004.
Mostly just a bunch of charts, with me filling in with ad libs.
Works great for conventions.
The game was played in my front room, yes it is a bit tight.

Funny you should say that.
I just had your rules come in the mail last week.
Plan to start reading them, so you never know. :)
