I spotted the book at SELWG last weekend and picked up a copy...been reading it and Yves has done a good job telling things based on his research into the French National Archives....a must-have book for anyone with an interest in Napoleon's adventures in Egypt and Syria!

Yes, did the same and bought it at SELWG.  Excellent read, thoroughly recommended.

It's an excellent book indeed - certainly the first of its kind to devote several paragraphs to the Armée d'Orient's sex life  lol

The content is impeccable but if I were to nit-pick I'd say the book could have used a bit more copy editing. Yves Martin's English is excellent but the occasional turn of phrase shows that he thinks very much in French : this is most obvious in the way he switches from the past to the present tense in some paragraphs (the present being the tense of historical narration in the French language, as opposed to the simple past in English). It's not really distracting and it certainly won't detract from one's enjoyment of the book, but this is something that could have been easily smoothed out had the publisher edited the manuscript a little more carefully here and there. It's just a pet peeve of mine, essentially for professional reasons, and I'm probably overly anal about such things as most people won't even notice.

Just received this through the post - it's going to be a Christmas present (to me - it's the only way I can get wargaming-related stuff!) so it's been whipped away from me very quickly, but on a quick glance through I got a chance for it's terrific, I echo the above comments in favour, though I haven't had a chance to read any of it yet. Lovely looking book.
