apoteos' Confrontation stuff
« on: October 25, 2017, 08:52:39 PM »
Hello,

I painted up one of Jes Goodwin's original Confrontation sculpts, a Necromunda Tech Leader. I have the other three leaders as well and will post them here when I eventually get them painted up. It was an interesting challenge to come up with a colour scheme for this miniature since there isn't an official 'Eavy Metal version to use as a starting point. I did however take inspiration from Darren Latham's cosmonaut styled Genestealer cultists.

Please let me know what you think.

That's brilliant! 8)

I especially love the banding on the bolter; flawless!

And those sculpts are still awesome aren't they? I never knew those were severed fingers on his belt; great detail, that still holds up to any new sculpt...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Great paintjob, may I ask how you painted the orange clothes?

Yes, there certainly is a charm to these sculpts. Regarding the severed fingers, I was a bit confused about what they were supposed to represent at first, I figured either fingers or cartridges. However, a couple of old art pieces featured the tech gangers with cut off ears worn as trophies, which gave me a clue.

The orange (and the rest of the model) was painted with Scale 75 colours.
Base is a mix of Sol Yellow and Antares Red (Only because I didn't have their orange).
Shadows painted by mixing in Orange Leather, deeper shadows with Brown Leather.
For highlights I added more yellow to the mix and White Sands.
Final highlights with White Sands.

A question,

I bought this guy on eBay not so long ago

http://www.solegends.com/citle1990/early90s/le02bratt/index.htm

Now, the first thing I noticed is that the model is unusually thin which makes me suspect it's a recast. Can someone who owns this model check theirs and confirm/allay my suspicions?

Mine is similarly thin but lack mold lines on the barrel.
(and can be a recast too because it was quite cheap when i got him but I got whole 3 models from the blister and they were single listing then so he have fair chance of being original)

Better clue is just how shiny is he.. Mine were darker and had greyer metal while your is totally shiny and look like he was cast yesterday. Although that clue not always works
And older metal was softer too.

Quite a lot were knocked out from the original moulds by GW staff after hours and bought by weight. Over time they've got onto ebay so depending on source could be badly moulded and still be from the original GW mould at Citadel. Generally shiny and tinny metal is the best indicator of a recast but it's almost impossible to give a definitive answer from a picture. At times GW used a very hard tinny alloy themselves especially just after they switched away from lead so even the metal isn't a complete clue.

Looking at the slotta tab it's quite thick. Does it have the GW copyright on it?

This is what the tab looks like. The area under feet is oddly smooth. But the tab is also the same thickness as my other Confrontation stuff.

I have the Bratt in a case, I'll dig him out over the weekend and take a few comparison pics. He does look a little flat to me, and he should be lead rather than white metal as he was released in 1991.
