Thank you!

Here is a list of the paints used, most are Reaper Paints (I buy them from wargaming heroes in the UK), as these paints have excellent coverage and dry very matt. There is a huge range of different colors.

Uniforms

- the greenish Grey, inspired by the M1943 Jackets is:
  * Highland Moss + Peacock Green + Black
  * Highland Moss + Pale Lichen
  * Final highlights with the previous mix and added Iraqi Sand (VMC)

- the Olive Green, inspired by other variant of the M1943 (the colors seem to vary a lot on the pictures):
 * Olive Shadow + Peacock Green +Black
 * Olive Shadow + Olive Drab (3:1)
 * Previous mix + Worn Olive
 * Previous mix + Iraqi Sand (VMC)

Webbing

 * Citadel Khemri Brown (OOP unfortunately, it's basically a more greyish Earthtone) followed by a Wash of Agrax Earthshade (or similar)
 * Khemri Brown plus progressively more 'Leather White' by Reaper (this Leather White is like a reallyyyyy bright grey that has a tiny speck of Earth in it, which means it is not completely grey/cold)

Brown Pants

 * Any dark brown, followed by a black Wash
 * Your dark Brown + Basic Dirt (Reaper)
 * Highlights with Shield Brown, plus in a following step Iraqi Sand

Don't worry if you don't have all these paints exactly, the most important part is to start from a rather dark color which will becomme the shadows, and then jump to a comparatively a lot brighter color. This gives you loads of contrast. You then put on a few highlights that are relatively close to this base color to get smooth tranisitions and finally make a big 'jump' in brightness for the final highlight, focussing only on a very few select spots, which again gives you good contrast.

Hope this might help!  ;)

Thanks Gunslinger, it's a bit of work I know but it's how we all learn to paint to better standards :)
Looking forward to seeing some more of your work, especially those Empress Germans.

Hi,
a small update before the US mortars and Volksgrenadiers, a conversion for a 'stolen' Kettenkrad, using the Empress Jeep Crew Figures and a bit of greenstuff:

Let me know what you think!

More to follow very soon!

Brilliant idea - love it!

PS your US troops look brilliant. Can’t wait to see the opposition (and I’m not a WW2 gamer!).

Late War - Sd Kfz 251 WIP
« Reply #41 on: 21 January 2018, 08:48:41 PM »
Hi guys,

it has been a while, but I'm back on track! After having painted some GIs already, I think it's now time to also start on the Germans.

I started with a Sd Kfz, which I recently bought and after over a dozen miniatures it was also time for a vehicle.

Now I have only painted two 20mm tanks until now, where the surfaces are quite small and can be easily painted with a brush. 28mm is quite something else in my opinion. After reading tons of articles and looking at great examples of painted vehicles, I had the color scheme and the effects I wanted to do more or less figured out.

I also converted a gunner for the MG from some of the Empress miniatures Volksgrenadiers and modified the canvas cover to look a bit more realistic:

I tried to achieve the color modulation look some painters do by creating gradients. This was done by classic blending, a bit of drybrushing and some very thin washes:

I really have to get an airbrush at one point, as this is really tedious  o_o

More progress soon, I have so much fun I can barely stop  lol

More on the Kettenkrad soon aswell!

Nice conversion.

The paint job on the second half-track looks like it is progressing well.
