Proxxon Hot Wire Cutter Guide
« on: 05 November 2017, 11:30:26 PM »
The Proxxon hot wire cutter is one of the best terrain making tools I know of.  The only downside is the miter gauge thats include is pretty subpar - especially when cutting long straight pieces.  I decided to make a more sturdy guide out of MDF

Below is a picture of the completed guide

Here are the parts it's made of - Mostly MDF and basswood for the rail guide.  Remember to always wear a mask or resperator when cutting MDF - the fine dust is really bad for your lungs.

A picture of the guide in use - a more detailed how-to can be found on my blog

Thx, smart idea. I got my guide and many, many more useful tools from https://www.shiftinglands.com/ which is a real treasure trove....

I include a link to the one from Shifting Lands at the bottom of my blog post.  It's a great product (and much better designed than my version) but it's pricey at 27.95 Euro's

My version, while crude, cost only a few dollars in materials but you need to have access to a table saw.

Crude but effective, so it is a good one :). The old balance between cost and time/effort means for me purchasing was the easier step.
