Here's an ultra cheap hot wire foam cutter I cobbled together from parts I had lying around.

Edit: Although I realized the high Amperage from my power source was a potential danger, I felt I had taken the proper safety precautions for myself.  Since I put this out here for public consumption however, I've since realize I can't guarantee someone using my design for inspiration might hurt themselves.  I'd feel terrible if that happened.  So I've eliminated the link to my blog.

Well nice. But i prefer one that can be held in one hand. And rules out the chance of electrocuting yourself  But do not get me wrong, i appreciated the effort

Yeah, something like that. I feel it is the time to pop roundf to my local (as in like two minites walking) and get me one of these.

For me the two most interesting hotwire cutters are the curving tool and the table tool (don't know the real names).

The first one allows you to carve mountains, hills, caverns, etc... and the second allow you to always cut straigth 45 or 90degrees angles. Perfect for buildings.

Swear by my hot wire cutter - you ideally need the sculping tool, the knife and the table - It cuts all types of foam
