Black Ops: Breaking the Code
« on: November 07, 2017, 09:29:53 AM »
A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to play Black Ops for the first time. We use a stealth mission: The A-team has to steal computer data from a PC stored on the first floor of a building protected by private security.

Overview of the battlefield:

The mission objective was in the central building. Guards stand on some of the roofs, in the streets and on the walkway. The security leader was located next to the mission objective, reading newspapers.
The A-Team tried to sneak in from the north, between the tube station and a building.
Hannibal, Face and Murdock are sneaking to the target, while B-A. is trying to take out the guard on the walkway.

All went well in the first turns: B.A. was able to sneak behind the guard, knocking him out without raising alarm, and Murdock did the same with the guard on the street! Both take position to cover Hannibal and Face.

Meanwhile the two were trying to get inside the building, but Face fails his attempt to pick the lock of the door - 2 times! Will the guard on the roof become suspicious?

The guard proved to be as dull as guards in an episode of a TV show are expected to be and remained unaware. Hannibal and face sneaked inside, in the first floor and were able to knock out the guard leader - but not without the alarm being raised!!
While Face has to spend 2 activations hacking the computer and downloading the files, Hannibal, B.A. and Murdock poured a hail of lead onto the guard on the roof, forcing him to keep his head down.

Face got the data, and he and Hannibal were running out and through a small alley, covered from B.A. and Murdock. Suddenly two more guards show up, and Murdock was hit!

Finally Hannibal and Face were able to escape, as well as B.A., but they have to leave Murdock behind! Next mission would be a rescue mission......

The game played very well and the stealth rules were extremely exiting - will the alarm being raised, will the guards become suspicious too early? We had a lot of fun with the rules and the mission.

We played the same mission again to see if the game was balanced and this time, it was a catastrophic failure for the heroes! The raid failed completely with Face the only escape while Hannibal, B.A. and Murdock became casualties (going to prison of course, because this is A-Team).

We will definitely play it again, with more episodes of the A-Team, or my commandos will have a try.

That is a cool looking table. And it sounds like a very nice game. I am still warming up to my first game of Black Ops. Maybe I should get of my arse and do somthing about it. The game sounds like precicely what I am after.

Great table, idea, minis (clear bases is the way to go IMHO) and AAR, CONGRATULATIONS!  ;)

Hot Wheels Elite Series has an A-Team van in perfect 1:50 scale:

Great game by the sound of it. In my first Black Ops game the agents got in and achieved the objective without any trouble. Then they got jumped on the way out as well. One agent dead and the leader with the arse bitten out of his trousers by a guard dog!

Ebay is your friend! ;)

It is also available in 1:43 scale (a "mud-covered" version), but be sure to get the 1:50 one for better fit with 28mm miniatures!

BTW: they didn't left Murdock behind, it's all part of the plan!  ;)
