Need help making spider webs for dungeon dressing

I've seen the tutorial about using a hot glue gun on parchment paper, but frankly that method seemed to leave a lot to be desired. Does anyone have experience making webs for giant spiders or for web spells using any other materials?

Or for that matter, are there any miatures manufacturers who sell panels of spiderweb? Seems like it would be fairly easy to design in injection-molded plastic. So far, I have not found any joy in various web searches.

If you have an airbrush you can make your own.


Or you can make it out of stretched out teddy bear stuffing.

I've handled it before and am pretty sure that with a little care you could make it look great even in the smaller scale. Might be worth a shot.

My first instinct would be to go with stuffing (as suggested by Dr Zombie)-should look pretty good if you tease it out a bit You can probably get some Halloween stuff as well.

Maybe raid the bits sellers for arachnarok spider bits?

For use as spell markers, the easiest thing is to look in the craft store for the round plastic canvas pieces. They're rather cheap and extremely durable and can be painted if you want, but normally don't need it. They're also extremely cheap, on the $1 for a number of them when I've gotten them.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'm going to try the hot glue gun on parchment paper method first, hoping I can get the strands  fairly thin and not too goofy. Most of the tease out stuffing/cotton wads/other fibrous material just don't look like webs to me, or at least not webs from giant spiders (or web spells). I'll post pics once done.

(Warning: this method creates dangerous gas).
Take two large bits of styrofoam/polystyrene ...a day when your GF or wife is not home.
Go somewhere safe (on a sink or basin), outside the house – or open all windows; wear gloves, send the cat and kids away, etc.
Pour a spoonful of acetone on each piece of polystyrene.
The surface of the polystyrene will begin to melt.
Press the two bits of polystyrene together while it's melting.
Separate them gently (no more than 10 cm).
Put them in cold water to stop the melting.

The effect is stunning; and it can easily be cut and painted.

Now *that* sounds like an interesting science experiment. I'll try it. And report back. Assuming I survive. <g>

When I used a battery-powered styrofoam cutter for the first time, it had a tendancy to make little filaments of styroam too. Very annoying, possibly due to the batteries wearing down. I wonder if there would be a way to draw those filaments in specific directions before they hardened...
