@lord marcus

Elves probably need another year before they are available.
As far as I recall, there is only one "prototype" sculpt so far.

I might have painted one maybe two of the Dwarves or Goblins by then.

one or two mind - not 2 of each at the rate I get to paint lol

So that time frame is just fine for by me...

Agree, excellent service yet again from northstar.

I built a couple of trial goblins earlier.

I think static poses are going to be the most successful (a bit like the dwarves). Also the heads sit on protruding bobbles to give them the properly hunched look; this works well, but it means they mostly will have to look more or less straight ahead to avoid looking unnatural. But I daresay this could be fixed with some minor surgery.

Anyway, here they are:

Thanks for the sample pics, I got the notice today that my goblins have shipped so I am pumped.   Also I am in the US, and have lots of leftovers from Frostgrave soldier, gnoll, and crewman sprues if anyone wants to do some swapping to make half-orcs.   I also have some Wargames Factory orc sprues, I am curious to see if those arms will fit.   I have some Gripping Beast, Warlord, and Fireforge historicals but I have noticed they are a little thin compared to the Frostgrave human models, but maybe they will work on these since they may be slightly smaller than humans.

Looking good Sevarian, can I trouble you for some height comparison shots?
A Perry mini would be perfect :)

No problem, I'll try to post some comparisons later.

They're about a head shorter than the average Perry, I think, which is about what it should be for Tolkien orcs...

Same here. Eagerly awaiting them although 60 multipose plastic figuresis a bit daunting
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

Look on the bright side, there's at least one single piece metal figure in there ;)

OK, here are a couple of quick comparison shots.

First, a goblin flanked by two metal Perry men-at-arms (sorry, none of my Perry plastics were to hand, but they're the same height). I've just noticed that the left hand Perry is actually blu-tacked to the coin rather than glued, which might add say half a mm to him. He and the goblin are on coins, the r-h Perry on 2mm mdf.

Second, various orcs/goblins: left to right, Essex, Citadel, Oathmark, Ral Partha, Alternative Armies.

Hope this helps!

Glad I didn't order them now! They are way too small for me

Yep, they're definitely quite small - shame since I was actually wanting to use them as non-massive Orcs.  Will sell them on if they're too small to paint.  If paintable (with my eyes) I'll keep them as proper goblins most likely.  They are much smaller than I anticipated considering how slight Perry plastics are.

Oh well, still on the hunt for useful Orcs then.

Actually I like them at that size - they will work well with LOTR

It's interesting that when they saw the photos, a lot of people said they weren't goblins, they were orcs.

Now they've seen them compared to other models, they're saying they're not orcs, they must be goblins, so they're too small!

Northstar have been pretty vocal in pointing out they're Tolkien-esque goblins/orcs as opposed to Warhammer goblins or Warhammer orcs. Maybe it's more to do with proportions than actual height. They certainly have a more 'realistic' smaller head, for example, in line with the GW LOTR models. I guess it shows you can't please all of the people.
