Alien Greys
« on: April 13, 2009, 11:10:32 PM »
I've had a productive Easter weekend, 30 figures and a flying saucer for my future War project. This brings my total figures painted in April to 99 and it's only the 13th :D Still, I have a lot of catching up to do since I've done virtually nothing this year up til now.

Project details here: http://www.matakishi.com/futurewarproject.htm

Beautiful as ever

99  :o  I've done 3 so far, with two more and a cork building on the painting table - I blame the Random Defence game on your site though...

Is the UFO an old Lindberg kit?

Random Defence is a killer isn't it :)

The saucer is indeed a re-issue of the Lindberg kit. It has the distinction of being the first injection molded kit with an outer space theme, and is the space kit that has been in production longest, 55 years so far... (I found this out when I was searching for some more earlier today)

  What rules are you using?

Brilliant stuff Paul !! always reminds me of the PC game "X-COM" where you had a squad of troopers/marines men and women, who were protecting the earth from alien invaders.
It was a tactical game, where the player had to equip each character and then send to where the ufo had been bought down.It was a turn based game, the early games had very blocky graphics, but the sense of tension was stunning. You could hear the little aliens moving around, then when it was there turn a single shot would ring out,and a man would fall.
What was great about the game, you could recover alien weapons.equipment and have scientists research it,then turn it on the alien, brilliant !!

Hope this link works, heres some footage.

Cheers all  :)Yorkshire_Man :)

Crossfire, my rules of choice for all things infantry and gunny-bang based.

Top stuff as ever.  8)

Nice minis too, shame they went OOP as they are nasty looking buggers for Greys.

There's a couple of "Let's redevelop XCom with modern graphics" projects out there - one of the best is UFO:AI (link), which is an open-source project that runs on Windows, Mac or Linux.

There's some classic XCom features not implemented yet - no robot tank support, for example - but overall it's a great update of a classic.

No idea mate, it just says they are OOP on Matakishi's article, so I assumed he'd know what he was talking about.  :)

That said, I dimly remember there being some buzz on Frothers a while back about Griffin relaunching them or something, but then the inevitable delivery problems started and they seemed to dissapear again.

I am, of course, probably completely wrong.

I bought a set (of 10 different poses) of the Greys from Griffin last July.
I was buying the Zombies & Survivors set and enquired as to the Greys availabilty.
Mark (at Griffin) sold me a set in a DVD style box for ?20.

At the time he said that they were due to be released soon.
However they are still listed on the Griffin website as "Coming soon". http://www.griffinminiatures.com/

I've had no contact since, so cant really comment further.

My force is made up of 15 different poses (I have 2 of each except one pose is a single and I have three of another), I'm assuming this is a complete set. I managed to get a couple of 'convention only' leaders in floating chairs when they were advertised as available for mail order a few years ago, just before the collapse of harbinger.

If they came out again I'd buy them if I saw them at a show but I don't think I'd trust mail order after ordering some historical miniatures from them previously (still waiting).

All the painting's done now, leaders and robots too, just waiting for the bases to dry at the moment and unpacking my Starguard scenery that arrived from Dave Bezio today. I've ordered some materials to make some scenery for my Greys as well, more on that when it arrives. Quickest army ever so far :)
