Bolt action pin marker suggestions needed
« on: 05 December 2017, 02:08:48 PM »
So I have been using Bolt Action rules for WW1 and Modern combat and I love the rules. My problem is i don't like markers that detract from the loom of the table. My modern games are in 20mm and I had been using a casualty model on a dial base to track pins but it's too large next to the 20mm models. Anyone have some good ideas for making pin markers that look natural and realistic with the table?

A good question.

I have a number of Warlord dial markers, unfortunately I have difficulty reading them, so another solution would be nice.

My gaming buddy does all of our markers rather generic so we can use them for any game that needs some kind of markers.
For example we use 2 cent coins with sand and tufts on top for pinning in Bolt Action. Then we have markers, 2 cent coins again, with sand and a 3-4 mmm sized stone on top. Others have a flower... you get the idea.
The beauty is they blend in with the terrain effortlessly and as I said above are absolutely generic.

Rocks, very small ones, on irregular card bases.
1 'stone' = 1 casualty
2 'stones' = whatever you need, e.g. 5 or 10 casualties.

as has been noted, it blends in, looks good & can be used for almost any period.

I use acrylic fire markers for this - they do stand out,far more than the ideas suggested above. But seem to work somehow, despite them really being quite different to everything else on the table.

Stunning little creations Keith. The domino players deserves an award  :-*

For Iron Cross - somewhat less ingeniously - I just made up command and morale markers using various rocks, tufts, sandbags and helmets to denote different things.

I cannot abide seeing a nice-looking tabletop with nice-looking miniatures and models, defaced by a ghastly accretion of lurid, day-glo plastic trinkets.
