[KS] Chronicle X - Finally a proper X-Com miniatures game!
« on: December 20, 2017, 12:35:38 AM »
Just saw this on TGN. Looks like a boardgame version of X-Com: Enemy Unknown, but with tactical combat this time as well as base management, unlike the official FFG game which only covered the global operations.

Note that a stretch goal that adds an AI mode for PVE/Coop play has been unlocked.

Kickstarter Link

From the Kickstarter page:

Chronicle X by Archon Studio
Chronicle X is a 1-7 player tactical board game with highly-detailed 32mm miniatures and a robust base management system.

Chronicle X is a 1-7 player tactical board game, set in a Sci-Fi Retro 1980s, tasking players to either control the daring men and women that make up the military organization, Chronicle X, or the Overmind, a ruthless and cunning alien overseeing the invasion of Earth and the end of all human resistance. The Chronicle X player(s) have a diverse group of heroes to choose from to form their squad, but must also manage the expansion of their base of operations, using what scraps and materials they can to secure a foothold on the planet. The Overmind player has a cadre of alien troops to choose from to overwhelm the Chronicle X players, ensuring they will never save Earth.

Ar is Prodos. No matter how nice and shiney it looks I'm not going any where near it.

And there we go again...

I think it looks great! Awesome miniatures too. And Archon Studio delivers in time (and often early too). I just have to sit down during the holidays and watch some (p)reviews to see if the game itself is nice.

I find your comment irritating and unecessary.

AR is directly connected to Prodos games. Fact.

I, and others, have never recieved goods we paid for. Fact.

Hence I will not back any project they are involved in and feel others should be made aware of their history.

What is your problem with that?

Gameplay sounds interesting on the video. I like the idea of tracking the fate of the Earth on the world map, and I like games that offer crafting...Mini's aren't half bad either!

It looks promising enough, and the Geoscape idea is absolutely a blast from the past, but as a huge fan of the original UFO/X-COM, the minis don't do it for me (this time), as they are not really X-COM to me. Individually, they're nice eough miniatures though.

Years ago, (before the modern X-COM game was even conceived) I was developing the idea of creating a sort of campaign engine, to play X-COM on the tabletop. Basically, it was an attempt at as straight as possible a port of the Geoscape part of the original game, plus the tech ladders and the base building, with any tactical games to be played with any skirmish system of choice.

Basically, if you like Infinity, you can use those rules for the combat portions, if you like 40K better, use that. All possible because the portions of the game are not linked in any way but through the campaign/Geoscape part.

It was meant to be used as a running campaign, to make the weekly games with my regular opponent more engaging.
I eventually abandoned the idea because of shifting interests (damn you, X-Wing  ;D ), but all of a sudden, I have the urge to dig up the old files and finish the idea...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

I was introduced to x-com not too long ago, but it got me in an instance.

Most of the grays are near enough for me and I've been looking for a game like this since I played the pc game.

I'm in for now, but I do hope to see some more details on the actual mechanics.

This KS is backed by over 2,800 people. I feel really sorry for them. Folks who don't back this project will likely get to buy it from online retailers before the backers get their copies.

FYI - please do not fall for the "Archon Studio" mask - this is still Prodos.

Thank you for the info, Prodos means no-go. The rest of my Kickstarter is still missing and the last promised (end of the year) was broken - again.

4+ years since the AvP Ks finished and still unable to fulfil pledges....

Backer beware, funding a KS doesn't entitle you to anything.  Just remember that with Prodos/Archon or whatever name they decide to go by in the future.

A cynic might suggest that the money from the AvP KS to was used to fund the additional tooling/machinery upon which their subsequent numerous KS and (entire) business has been built, but with little or no return to those original backers.  Changing company/trading names and transferring assets, whilst entirely legitimate in many circumstances, might be see in other situations as potentially fraudulent.
