Small Scale Copses and Woods
« on: 06 February 2018, 04:22:28 PM »
Hi,
Started this one thinking of 6mm, but decided it fits in more with 2-3mm, although the same principles could be applied to 6mm.

Hope someone finds it useful.

That's very effective. I can see what you mean about the scale thing, it would make fantastic 3mm or for something like Mighty Empires. Do you think it would scale up ok for 6mm?

Looks lovely. I make mine with drawing pins and torn sponge, but yours look like a much quicker way to get a proper canopy.

 Thanks for the comments.

I think you could scale it up for 6mm. A slightly larger mesh, or maybe the same mesh but having longer strands as the 'tree trunks' could do the job. If the trunks need thickening, then sliding a length of electrical wire insulation over the trunk might be an option. using the canopy from a commercial 6mm tree, removing the trunk and sticking the canopy on to the scourer might make the covering look better, or maybe the sisal/wire approach for conifers could work. If I can summon up the energy tomorrow I may have a play with some bits and see what it looks like. doing something fancier on top might make it a bit more fragile and so sitting troops on top might not be an option.

Looks great. I am of the opinion that 28mm woods and jungles should look something similar but a bit higher above ground.

I've made some stands using a similar method, but with nails on a base instead of the mesh "legs."
Something like this, though this isn't the site I originally saw the idea on:

They work really well.  I need to make some more.
