I've been talking about it for long enough...
« on: 23 April 2009, 09:14:15 PM »
... so its about time I showed some progress.

After finding a curious artifact in the Egyptian desert around the time of the Sudanese campaign, the British Government launched an investigation into the possible uses of the device known as the "Star Gate", and set up a clandestine operation deep under the mountains of Cumberland under the direction of Her Brittanic Majesty's Naval Experimental Division.

The device:

A crack team of explorers and scientists was assembled in order to travel through the Star Gate and spread the influence of the British Empire amongst the stars.

The team consisted of (clockwise from top left) Captain Jack McIvor O'Neill, commonly known as "that mad Irish bastard", Midshipman Cameron Mitchell, Miss Samantha Carter (first female Fellow of the Royal Society), a Canadian archaeologist Dr Lazarus Jackson, Captain O'Neill's indentured manservant Teal'c (or "Beef T" as he was jocularly known) and one Vala Maldoran, a wealthy adventuress believed to be of Swiss origin.

The Team could call on the navy for support in the form of troops:

or more experimental devices such as the renowned Landship HMLS Minerva:

All these operations were overseen by one Mister Hammond, appointed by the Ministry to report any and all findings to the Government select committee.

Of course, not all the new worlds visited by the exploratory team were immediately in favour of becoming part of the Empire, and frequently had to be persuaded, either by diplomatic means or (more often) through a show of force.

The most problematic of such instances came about when the team encountered a local lordling known as Ra'tep:

Somehow, this felow had developed a cult of worship around himself, and was protected by  a fanatical sect known as the Jaffa'a, who utilised a bizarre form of energy weapon in the defence of the capital building come temple that Ra'tep ruled from.

Fortunately, this proved no obstacle to Capt. O'Neill who, with a cry of "I'll take my hand off yer face, ye yellow eyed space bastard!" led a charge of the Naval Brigade, and cleared the temple complex with fixed bayonets, killing Ra'tep and thus freeing the native populace to take their place as subjects of the British Spatial Empire.

....

That was fun.  :)

I wonder what I'll do next?

Smashing! :-*

Will you use a particular rules set to play out their adventures, or was this more of an exercise in conception and painting...?

Cheers everybody.  :) That was a lot of fun to do. Been needing to do something not very serious for a while and that fit the bill just right.  The hardest part was finding the character miniatures, which I think Svennn was alluding to.  lol

Noooo .... your implementation of this concept is far too good for us not to see them in some game reports. If we have to, I'm sure someone here cwould be only too pleased to put together some games involving your trooops.

BTW - who makes the gate?
