Valor, Steel and Flesh

I've been reading through these with a friend for the pas tfew days and they seem like a great set of rules. I do have one question I was hoping some of you who have played it can answer. That being, if you can only move, or shoot on your activation, why is there a modifier for firer moving on the shooting chart? Is this applied to troops firing from a moving vehicle or something like that?

We play it that the moving modifier applies to figures firing from vehicles, or mounted. Although one of our players claims it can also apply to infantry armed with magazine rifles. He claims he's read it in the rules, and I must admit I have a feeling that I have too -but can't find it!

I've gone through the rules several times today and I think that the +1 for Firer moving is for vehicles as it states in the vehicle section that vehicles can both move and fire but will have certain disadvantages if they do. A little further in the vehicle section I read that passengers firing from a moving vehicle get a +3 to the die roll and take an extra action to reload.

Of course I found something else to ponder. There is a curious sentence in the melee section I'm not sure about. Page 32: "If the Unit does not move beyond where the charging Leader can reach, the melee is ensured."

I figured it out. They are referring to the target unit that is being charged. The target unit has to make a morale check if the leader figure of the charging unit makes contact. There is a chance that the unit being charged may move out of the charging unit's movement allowance. It just took me a few more times of staring at it.

Remember: the movement distance of a unit is randomly determined by dice -the unit leader is moved and the rest of the unit is placed around him/her within six inches, much like Brother against Brother. We've also created a Morale deck of cards -again like Brother against Brother[well, two, one for morale, one for Serious Problems]; we find turning cards more exciting than looking things up on a table. However, if I remember rightly, there are one or two contradictory results on the Morale Table. Overall though I think VSF is a solid set of rules, and great fun to play.

P.S. Our 'other player' now claims the moving/firing modifer applies to Extraordinary Characters because they are just that. Fair enough.
