Alliance Gunship Overnight Project
« on: 09 May 2009, 01:47:12 AM »
Hey guys I'm doing an overnight project.  I'm making an Alliance gunship for my Savage Worlds Firefly/Serenity campaign.  I found a toy jet for 3 and 3/4 inch figures at a local Dollar Store for $20.00 and it even has reasonable landing gear.  It really looks more like a space ship than a jet so I'm going to paint it up as a light transport/gunship for 28mm figs.

I've glued the little cockpits down and I'm going to paint in a new window in front of the old cockpit.  The plastic detailing looks like a window there and it's in a better spot for a 28mm bridge anyway.

Nice find, Ironworker! I'm looking forward to seeing how it paints up as a 28mm ship. It definitely has the right look for Serenity. I have to say, a Serenity miniatures game is definitely on the radar for me - I love the look and near-future sci-fi is something I've always imagined is easier to do using existing 20th century ranges out there - and of course, sci-fi stuff too. However, it's still a long way away on my radar, so I'll be watching your stuff and taking notes!

Well I was going to post this last night but the site was down for a while.

I've finished most of the detail paint work so I'll post pics of that shortly.

And here it is with more details.

Now I've got some weathering then a wash then some highlighting and more weathering.  Then I'll be done.

Excellent! Turning that front section (in black) into the cockpit is genius - it immediately changes the scale of the vehicle. Very, very nicely done - and the painting looks sharp too. Looking forward to seeing it in all its highlighted and weathered glory!

Now, somehow "$20 at a Dollar Store" sounds a bit paradoxical, but that is one mighty nice piece of work. I´m looking forward to seeing it with some figures for scale.

Here is some weathering.  I tried not to go overboard.

I've got the wash on it but it takes a while for such a  big model to dry.

here is a shot with the wash done.  Now I'm going to pick up some of the weathering and perhaps do some selective highlights.  I don't want to go too far though since I wanted this to be a quick project and I think it looks pretty tabletop worthy at this point.

Nice!!!

Company and model info please!!!!

It's from a company called Boley and it comes in a playset called "Defender" with three 3 and 3/4 inch figures and a jeep type thing.  I got it from the Dollar General where I live.  These stores are common in the U.S. but I don't know where you might find a similar store outside the U.S.
