Oathmark Elves are here
« on: 16 April 2018, 08:07:19 PM »
Finally the Oathmark Elves have been released.
I put my order in this morning.
I normally don't like plastic figures much, but these look rather good.  Strangely, for me, the metal figures are a bit of a let down and I didn't order any of these.
From Northstar today, then, I have Goblins (plastic and metal) a few metal dwarves, elves, Fireforge Templar Foot (mainly as a source of bits for conversions, but a few will become fully fledged miniatures).

Also ordered. I imagine they will not match my Lucid Eye elves in size, but I remain hopeful.

I was looking forward for these too  ;D and share your view about the metal minis  :(
Curiously I am really fond of the metal dwarfs, both types of goblin minis, but of the elves I prefer the plastic ones, hmmm
But I'll wait to see them in real before I make my final choice.
These days it's Warhammer the Old World and Freebooters Fate I am working on !

Yes, I think Sauron found the metal elves were harder to beat than the plastic ones lol

Like you, I like the metal dwarves, but I don't like the plastic ones!

Uh, those metals really aren't great indeed. Simplistic chainmail on some, just poor facial sculpts on others. The plastics are indeed much better, although that oval chest thing really doesn't work for me - such a shame, they're pretty perfect beyond that, but it will be a pain to remove or cover up (sculpting a surcoat or so?)...

I don't dislike the metal elves as much as some seem to; I suspect they might paint up rather nicely. Better order some with a box of plastics, I suppose...

Agreed! I mean, what's it supposed to be??

One of my persistent gripes with plastics is how the archers' right arms are represented when shooting. With the noble exception of the Perry Wars of the Roses set, they always look wrong to me. I usually get round this by not building any plastic archers, but this might be tricky in an elvish army... Anyway, another reason to order some so as to find out...

I bet these are too small for my more heroic fantasy based armies

The Goblins are comparable in size with Wargames Factory Orcs for instance, so I don't expect there'll be too much of an issue there. But until we get some good side by side reference shots, we're all just guessing of course... ::)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

On the Oathmark Players Facebook page there is a photograph comparing sizes.
I have copied it here:

So that's that worry out of the way; they look the same size foot to eye as the latest plastic GW elves... :)

Score another one for Oathmark!  :D

Well, they scale with the LotR figure, but are noticeably smaller than the WHFB figure.

You are probably right Daeothar, but the GW elves still look bigger. I think it is the big shoulder pads, but they might also be a bit chunkier in general.  They look like they are also similar in size to the Gripping beast plastics.
I haven't  seen any comparisons with Fireforge or Conquest Games.
Nord, I think the LotR elf looks smaller ad that has been the consensus on the various Oathmark Facebook pages.

Anyway. yeah the metals on first sight seem to be a bit of a let down, but I think I need to see them painted up. the plastics are amazing!

Looks like the Oathmark and AoS elves are roughly the same height but the AoS ones are a lot chunkier especially the hands and feet not much of an issue for me as I much prefer the Oathmark ones. I'm hoping they scale in well with the likes of Conquest, Fireforge and Gripping Beast because I think you could do some nice cavalry mash ups with those kits.
