Necron Kill Team (Update 19.07.2020.)
« on: 14 August 2018, 10:46:18 AM »
It's hard to resist. For now I have this test model, a basic Warrior. Had only a vague idea of where I was going with this, both conversion and paintingwise. I do like where I arrived. I feel this will be a very fun warband to make.

I kind of like it. I always thought it was a bit weird that these Necrons would sit in their tombs for millennia and arise without a bit of corrosion or mould on them..? Or are we to believe they all go through a power washer/budding machine before emerging onto the battlefield!?

Much, much better than super shiney Necrons, I will have homage to pinch that idea thanks ;)

I like it very much!
Nice work. I may rust up my old school necrons that I painted a while ago.

It's amazing how a simple conversion can change the feel of a mini, very haunting.

That's great! Looks like something out of Heavy Metal (the classic magazine, not GW 'eavy metal). Way more fun that the Terminator clone Necrons.

Love this!

When I first saw it I immediately thought 'Classic Sci-Fi!', which GW minis rarely give me the feeling of. It also reminds me of those early Blanche fantasy conversions - I think it's because it somehow looks more like a skeleton than usual, which pushes it onto fantasy territory. It's really fantastic.

What did you do to texture it?

Thanks! Made another one. This is my version of a Deathmark.

I distressed the surfaces with a dremel in places, and I stippled liquid green stuff over everything but the gun.

This is the first time in all these years that I see Necrons and totally fall in love with them. That's the way. It totally makes sense and gives the minis a completely different interpretation. Bravo!

Whoa these look incredible!! Congrats on some great looking figures!

If you dont mind me asking how did you achieve that look on the armour? I love how corroded it looks!

Superb work, the paint job and conversions make these look like an entirely new faction (a damn scary one at that).

Thanks guys!

If you dont mind me asking how did you achieve that look on the armour? I love how corroded it looks!

Black primer, white primer on top. Watered down green applied as a glaze over everything. Then more green glazes that fade towards bottom and red glazes that fade towards top. Shading with controlled black washes. Subtle highlights with lighter green. Gun painted flat red. A little bit of shading on it with darker red. I think that's more or less it. Keep in mind that I added texture to the metal with a dremel, putty and liquid green stuff before painting.

Maybe a dumb question, but what rulebooks are needed to play Killteam with xenos (necron, tau and tyranids).  I gave up 40K close to 10 years ago but still have all my old models and it'd be nice to throw down some games if it's not too expensive.

I'd looked at the Necromunda reboot for the same reason but was put off as it seemed more a subscription service than a standalone game.

Just the core rulebook. All the factions information is in them.
