I have two friends who were dog handlers in the Vietnam War.  One was a U.S. Army Scout Dog handler and the other was a Sentry Dog handler for the Air Force. I may have to buy a couple of those and paint them up for them.

I actually interviewed both of them for a Veterans Day activity we hold every year at my middle school. Here is the interview link for the Army one (Air Force one is also on my Veterans Recall YouTube channel):

If you get a chance to watch the interviews, I would love to hear what you think!

Really nice interviews Mike! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! Normally, we bring the vets in to talk to the kids in the classroom. Most of these were created during the Covid year when they couldn't come in, but we still wanted to celebrate. That's why they're shorter. The Ron Coffman one is the newest, and didn't have a time restriction. So, it's longer.

I could interview Cap'n Jim...what do you guys think...? He has come and spoken to my students before. lol

You should interview Capn Jim. By the way, I really enjoyed your travel blogs. Seems we've been to a number of places in common.

Interesting choice of dogs. The Australian Army used tracker dogs in Vietnam from the get go, always black Labradors. I supect they were seen as less threatening to civvies when doing cordon and search operations.

A.  That was in interesting interview, Mike.  Thanks for posting it.

B.  Nam '68 Tour of Duty doesn't include rules for dog handlers, but I may have to cook something up for my campaign. I already have a 28mm German Shepherd all painted up and ready to go, although, Ged, yours looks pretty good.
They could be an attached specialist team for a particular mission...

C.  I could do an interview.  I can share my years and years of accumulated stories and wisdom, both of my time in the Army, and my wargaming...... 8)

The book "Tracker" is a good one for the Aussies in Nam with their Labradors.

I'm already seeing the game title. The Battle of Rin Tin Tin 1967.  Or how about Operation Crimp 1966, The Littlest Ho Bo Woods?  :D
