So, how does Australian uniform colours vary from US uniform colours?

Or after a period, are they all a similar shade of green?

Back in the eighties  I had a number of Vietnam era shirts and trousers for bush wear. They were simply more comfortable than the then issued polyester mix items, with their stiff collars and the ridiculous map pocket placement on the thigh. Most were as new issue. Colour wise they varied from a mid olive, through a sort of greyish green to a sort of faded pea green colour. Buttons were darkish olive plastic.

Webbing had a similar diversity although was notably less brownish than the US issue and items had the Australian broad arrow marking stamped on them. A lot of Vietnam era diggers used the Australian ‘Bren pouch’ as an additional or substitute item on their webbing. It had a bigger capacity than the standard basic pouches. These tended to be either a khaki tan or a pea green colour. Paul has correctly modelled these on some of the figures. Early on in the war ‘08/‘38 pattern packs were the norm.

GP boots were black leather. The early toggle ropes could be natural hemp rope but most were green nylon. Bayonet scabbards, if worn, were black and the frog web coloured.

Lovely figures so far. Promises to be another great extension to the Vietnam range. Got to say, love the SLR. So much so that I bought a deactivated one a while back. Its a proper looking bit of kit. Really need to be painting up my NVA but keep getting distracted. Can't wait for the Aussies though. SLRs and Centurians. Whats not to like!

So what is that strapped to the SLR?

Just so I do not repeat the doll debacle.

WW2 era shell dressings were still in use in Vietnam. If you're not familiar with them, they're a wad of gauze roughly the size of a bar of soap attached to a cotton bandage. They are particularly useful for ad hoc treatment of shrapnel or GSW to limbs as the gauze can be held against the wound site and the bandage easily fixed around the limb.

Similar dressings are still in use with modern militaries today.

Stunning work as always from the good Mr Hicks.

Although my one criticism is that Bruce's bush hat is looking a bit square? They tended to get very crushed.
