Plaster Brick Walls
« on: June 10, 2009, 11:57:04 AM »
I'm still discovering new pictures in a really old folder of my really old projects!

this is my first try on making bricked walls with plaster. I took the plaster, and I put it on a large glass panel, making a sort of frame whith some foam. so I prepared some sort of "plaster sheets", and with something like a cutter I just scratched them! :)
That's the same technique i used for the Plaster WWII House!

and this is a sort of Betatest, before making the house...

cheers,

Jack

Very interesting!
And the final result is darn good! :D
Which is the thickness of the "plaster sheet"?
I tried something similar but it was a mess... :(

uhm... I'm not shure, but I suppose... 4 mm, or something like that... it was really thin, and I broke it twice, so i pasted a paper sheet behind it, to avoid other breaks!

The result looks great... I would just be careful with where to take off the plaster. You example looks a bit too "regularly" damaged. It almost forms a straight line.

Well, if the lower bit of the wall is supposed to be a plinth of a sort, then it should be further out than the plastered part. But hey, the wall looks good, those are just some architectural musings.  ;)

Looks good. If it helps any there are stronger plasters out there than plaster of paris - though I'm not sure what might be available in Milan. You could check around and see if you can get Permastone or hydrocal in your area - as it would help with your breakage problem, both are stronger than p.o.p. and will hold up to abuse a little better.
If pro is the opposite of con, what is the opposite of progress ?

unfortunately there are no sellers of Hydrocal... :(

anyway, I've bought some ceramic plaster, and see what happens... nowadays I have in project some 15mm WWII german houses... I need the plaster only for the original stuff, then I'll make the moulds, so it will be strong enought (I just hope so...)
