Hey everyone,
over the last couple months I've been slowly working on a 28mm force of 1945 GIs.

While the project is far from finished I decided to create this thread to chronicle my progress.

The infantry are for the most part by Empress Miniatures - I absolutely love those models. :-*
I really hope there will be some further additions to the range. I'd especially love some GIs wearing greatcoats to mix in with the existing range. One can hope. ;)

There are also some support weapons by Warlord Games. While I am not too fond of the rank and file miniatures in Warlords US winter range, I like some of the support weapons.

Anyway, here goes and please excuse the bad photos, I will try to take some better ones when time permits:

Platoon HQ:

1st Squad:

1/2 2nd Squad:

Bazooka team:

1st .30cal team:

60mm mortar:

M-18 Hellcat:

Most of that stuff is WIP in some way, e.g. most bases aren't done and the Hellcat is still missing the crew and decals.

They painted up pretty well! What colors did you use for them?
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

The figures look fantastic! Just the bases are a little barren... even those with tufts on them.

Thank you very much!

You are absolutely right about the bases. While I like the tufts they aren't enough by themselves. I was thinking about maybe adding some dead leaves or shrubbery in brownish/orange tones, to keep with the autumny/wintery theme while adding some contrast to the bases. I just haven't found the right product yet. Any advice? ???

Splendid job!  Your colors are spot-on.  My one criticism: They are not wearing gaiters like Britain or Germany - the straps at the top of the boots are in fact part of the brown leather boots (M43 two-buckle boots).

Thank you!

And thanks for the criticism - I'll get that corrected!  :)

Re: 28mm Western Front 44/45 WIP thread - (3/26 - First Germany added)

I renamed the thread, as the project will now also encompass not only the Americans, but also their German adversarys.

So to mix things up a bit I started to paint some Germans over the weekend. The figures are all Warlord, albeit from a few different sets. I think this mix reinforces the "ad-hoc" appearence which probably was common in the last months of the war.

Anyway, here goes:

The figures themselves are a little too chunky for my liking but your painting is absolutely superb! The different camouflage schemes look splendid.
