Hi Folks,

Lon has indicated that there are more packs to follow. Paul Hicks is the designer.

Great work from Paul on the miniatures. They look the part and will know doubt be on everyones' shopping list.

I like this release a lot.
If I would have know before the Brigade is bringing out these cuties I would have painted some up and included pics of them in my Chinese Army Compendium...

Hicks generally kicks ass, but as became apparent to me when I painted his Musketeer minis for my latest LPL entry, sometimes his hands are outrageously large.  This is especially evident in some of these minis.  And worse, the outlandishly large hands are here wed to outlandishly large arms.

Because they bought it from germany during the thirties...

The Big Sword Squads are great.  They were fanactical assault troops with Broadswords.  The Chinese warlords called them "Dare to Die" soldiers.

Just a quick quote from my Chinese Army Compendium:
1937 – 1938 Nanking National Revolutionary Army
Prior to the outbreak of the war, Germany and China had close economic and military cooperation, with Germany helping China modernize its industry and military in exchange for raw materials. More than half of the German arms exports during its rearmament period were delivered to China..
With these newly purchased tanks the Nationalists organized three tank battalions in 1936. The 3th Battalion in Nanking had 10 Pz-I A tanks, 20 L3/33 tankettes and some SdKfz 221 and 222 Armored Cars. When the war broke out in 1937, these battalions participated in the battle of Shanghai and Nanking and were more or less destroyed by the Japanese forces.
In the early 1938, the Japanese government strongly demanded the German government to evacuate the German advisers from China. Hitler agreed with the Japanese demand and the German advisers had soon left China.
Platoon Structure
The Chinese National Revolutionary Army platoon was the backbone of the Chinese forces. In a way the Chinese Infantryman was the scale and claw of the Chinese Dragon. Interesting enough there is no typical Chinese infantry formation. The typical squad varied from 8 to 15 men. German trained troops normally had squads of 10 to 12 soldiers.

Can't agree more, I have dedicated a seperate troop entry to these soldiers in my book:
"During early war some Chinese regiments included special assault troops armed with the traditional Chinese two-handed "Da Dao" big sword. The Da Dao was used by Nationalist troops in the 1930s-40s as a close-quarters weapon during planned ambushes on Japanese soldiers in appropriate terrain such as tall grass or paddy fields. In a way these troops are the last of the “dare to die” suicide assault troops of the Chinese Warlord era."

I even wrote some special rules (Counter Charge, Dare to Die, Fanatic etc) for them...

I agree, this forum is always a spring of wisdom.
BTW: One of the benefits of writing the World at War books are exactly stuff like this, it is amazing what historical details can be found.
