Confederate Cav. rebased. This now brings my ACW (Rebels &
Patriots) forces up to five (RUB) boxes. Enough for now. I will,
at some time, do some limbers for the artillery (they are patiently
waiting in the lead pile) but I now have enough for two nice sized
forces with options. This is the kind of thing I want for all my war-
game 'armies'.
i.e. Enough COMPLETED:-
Troops for both sides;
A set of rules I am happy with;
Some nice scenery (e.g. Not the whole of Stalingrad, just a village);
and all the peripherals (QRS/ right dice/tokens etc) & enough
 for each player.

I want to be able to just take the items from the shelf & play. :)

It's a complete ruin! Well it will end up that way.
Started with two GW church type corner ruins.
I was quite happy how this little bit of scenery
was coming along, what with all the different
dry-brushing & thin washing it was getting. I
do so hate wasting things like bits of paint left
over from other tasks.
Then I picked up a 'mis-print' 3d ruined arch.
Complete re-think & the arch was included
into the ruin. The big problem was that I had
no way of matching all the existing washes &
dry-brushing... Result = Start again! :'(

By the way, the vines/climbers are from Silver Birch tree detritus,
(a helpful suggestion from another LAFer).

Here we have more foliage added.

Final touch was to add some broken stained glass.
A thankless task, which resulted in:-
several bits of very small 'window glass' pinging onto the floor,
never to be found.
Super-glue sticking to my fingers, but refusing to hold any bits
in place with any bond stronger than spit!
Glue buggering the tips of brushes despite leaving it over-night
to dry.

Ah well completed now.

Thanks Bob. I can think of many settings where it can be used.
One of which is Sicily 1943.

A little late but I think that the bases on your ACW troops look great.
Got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.

A 'new' project is for a family member.
Repair & revamp an Airfix 1/24th scale Spitfire.
It has lain in bits for decades. Pictures are what
I received.  I think I can scratch build the missing
bits, but my first problem is, that as soon as I start
removing the dust & grime the transfers are going to
flake off (some bits already have). I can't even get
some new transfers as the ones on the kit show the
very squadron that the model's owners Grandfather
flew in during WW2.
Any suggestions guys? ???
I am not looking forward to hand painting roundels :o

Can you get appropriate decals made?  I know there are several places that can print them for you.

Yeeees I could, but for the four roundels involved I am going
to try & freehand paint. I will pencil the outlines first using a
suitable sized circles. I will post pictures of the 'progress'.
The closer I look at it the more errors I see. Must stop looking
so closely. lol
I have filled the worst of the gaps, & when dry I will sand them
smooth. Then I'll have to decide between a parked version,
which will require scratch building a complete wheel assembly
& the propeller (amongst other things) but I could make it look
a bit like one of the two pictures the family has of him & his
Spitfire.
OR
an in flight version (less work).  ??? ??? ???

You are going to end up making a new wheel assembly anyway as the wheel is visible even when retracted. Perhaps after Christmas we can make a mould of the other wheel?
I vote for getting some decals printed or looking for aftermarket products but if you are keen to paint it's your show.. ;)
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

2019 Painting Challenge :
figures bought: 500+
figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt

1) True about the wheel, but easier to fake it if it don't have to hold
the plane up.
2) If it is in flying mode, the idea is to have it mounted onto a wall.
So the under-side will be out of sight.
3) I have had a look at aftermarket products, but the flipping guys
at Airfix changed the transfers when they re-vamped the kit.
4) (links to No. 1) If I do mould, what could I mould it out of that
    would support the model's weight?

Not enthused about this project, but it WILL be done (one way
or the other).

This is an amazing thread! Too many fantastic pics to compliment them all, but the "broken stained glass" put it over the top! Well done sir! Inspirational!

Thanks MG. We aim to please. I try to give back to LAF, well I have
had so much inspiration from it over the years. 8).

Soon I will be starting a new idea. For years I have been saving
'interesting bits' in empty butter tubs. Well I now have stacks of
them! To reduce this pile I will be taking a tub at a time, emptying
it & making...something from the bits. The hope is that by the
time Hammerhead come around next year I'll have stacks of things
to sell. :D :D :D

The Wife's friend has a grandson who is mad keen on Dinosaurs.
I was asked if I could make a table-topper to fit on top of the
small side table he has been given to play on.
This is the result. I hope he likes it.
First the batons, that will stop it sliding off.
Then two views of the paint job.
Next with some of the movable scenery (3 volcanos, from
fish-tank ornaments & 3 bits of marsh, scratch built).
Then two pictures with the final scenery added, 4 clumps
of trees.
Finally the wife added a packet of Dinos. :)
