X Planes photo blog
« on: July 01, 2009, 07:06:15 AM »
I found x-planes via another aviation blog a few months ago, and just realized I'd never shared it here.

It's a photo blog, usually each entry is just a photo, a short line of text, and (usually, but not always) a link to further information elsewhere. The focus is "experimental aircraft. exotic aeromachines. oddities. sleek silver cigars. pedal-o-trons. soviet hive-mind bombers. aerial joy. the olden days. action shots. propaganda posters. etc" and naturally that includes much of pulpish interest!

The French & Italians did some interesting things in the 20s and 30s...

More 1930s exotica:

Very pulpish:

This one's a favourite - did the Russians refer to them as "dirigbilski" or as "zeppelinski"?  ;)

Artwork too:

There are some really great photos here. Lt's face it, reality has always been more "pulp" than fiction...

This one, the Grumman Skyrocket, is, of course, already famous as one of the mounts for the Blackhawks, for over fifty years!

Here's a link to some profiles.

And, for those who don't know Blackhawk and his team, here's a link to everything Blackhawk.

Before anyone asks, yes, there is a 1/48 model available, from Minicraft.

Great link! I have been glued to it for 3 days now. I keep finding some awesome picture, then going to the source, and then trolling the web for more info on some strange '30's race plane.

And for all you VSF'ers/Pulpers, there are some shots from Heavy Metal's War of the Worlds: Goliath, a new animated movie coming out soon (July?). It features gigantic walkers and steampunk airplanes around the turn of the century.....
