Part 105 of Tilea's Troubles is part one of a two part battle report, in which a large vampire army takes on a campaign list Tilean force, the Duchess Maria against Lord Alessio of Portomaggiore at the famous bridge of Pontremola.

Hi Padrissimus, I just wanted to say how inspiring this is! (I'm several videos behind, but will endeavor to catch up). It's not only the scale of the project and the games, but the execution of your videos is great- the composition of your shots very is impressive- and photographing miniatures well is not easy!

We've been having an ongoing campaign in our version of the Old World and a non-canonical Albion that also spans some years and various game systems (arriving at basically home-brewed hodgepodge of rules that fit whatever type of game seems most fun for the next stage). We ignored the End Times and decided that Albion was not accurately mapped between the old Albion Campaign and the even older Storm Lords novel, so just kind of made it our own. Do you use the old Warhammer "Canon" or just build your own world as you go?

Your project of putting your campaign story into video is awesome! I look forward to seeing more!
I have a YouTube and so can you!

I'd just like to say Frugalmax has joined Tilea's Troubles at the top of my 'must watch' YouTube channels.

Love what both of you do.

.... Do you use the old Warhammer "Canon" or just build your own world as you go? ...

Thanks for the comments, Frugalmax. When you say 'several videos behind' does that mean you've slogged your way through approximately 90 or 100 videos?!

I used the names of the gods, the shape of the land, and the names of the big cities. The rest, however, I created myself through real world history inspiration. I worked on an abortive Tilean Campaign set 60 years earlier, which was going to be more of a pure story-writing exercise on which to hang some games, rather than having campaign rules and several players, etc, and through that came up with quite a bit of history that could be used as background in this campaign.

For example, my 'Church of Morr' is a Warhammer version of the Renaissance Roman Catholic church, with schisms and heresies and inquisitions. (The prayers used for this church and the Church of Nagash are modified RW, old Latin prayers!!) There are themes, ideas and backgrounds inspird by reading umpteen books about Florence and the Medici, the Borgias, the Condottiere, Leonardo da Vinci, Savonarola, etc etc. I made up historical background for the various realms inspired by my reading, then as the campaign went on the details grew and grew (occasionally, though rarelym changing some details subtly), with input from the players, and also born out of new figures and bringing in old armies (like having my Arabyan army joining as the NPC mercenary force the 'Sons of the Desert' (my favourite Laurel and Hardy film). Many of the names are altered real Italian Renaissance names.

Overall, canon provided the general shape of the land (I left out the coast on the west of the Tilean sea) and the names of the biggest cities and the gods. But I pretty much made up the rest. Nothing new for me. In 1983, with the new rules "Warhammer, the Mass Combat Fantasy Roleplaying Game" I had to make up everything from scratch - religions/gods, maps, economies, character names. There was no official world at all. Years later I slotted my own creation into the region in the official world known as the Border Princes. Having started that way, I continued on in a similar vein.

Now, off to find your Youtube channel.

Hi Padrissimus,

Haha, sorry I should have been clearer- I'm several episodes behind the current release starting from where I jumped in (I found this and started watching maybe 10-15 episodes ago). It would be great to see it from the beginning(!), but that old "real life" business seems to get in the way (though one of these days I'm gonna find a way out of it, I'm sure!).

My Youtube channel is here: https://www.youtube.com/@Frugalmax, though be warned it's highly frivolous by comparison. Hope you enjoy it anyway! (and @SpinalTap thank you for the kind words!)

I love that the Church of Nagash is set as the antagonizing force (or one of the many) to the Church of Morr. That's great. And having the many forces, characters and threads just makes the games so much more fun! Even though I've always been more of a battle-game player than a RPG player, the story elements have always made the games so much more fun (hence a large collection of WFRP and other RPG books that I've not actually played- oops).

Oh wow, I didn't realize you are one of the originators of Warhammer- that's incredible! I have dabbled with writing rules for a tabletop battle game and it's a huge effort to just get the basics working smoothly, much less add in all of the "peripherals" like magic, war machines, special rules for xyz type of troop and so forth. Thanks for all of the work!

I am not an originator of the rules. Merely an original user of the rules. Something got 'lost in translation'. Or in speech to text. (Edit) I see it ... 'my' instead of 'the'. Entirely unintended. Colloquial use. Like saying 'my new shoes' doesn't imply I made them!😜

Haha, no worries- for a second I wondered if I had accidentally unmasked a lurking legend! Though, to be fair, Tilea's troubles are pretty legendary at this point. Looking forward to the next one!

Tilea's Troubles Part 109 involves some engineering novelties of dubious design.

Definitely still interested, I still love these productions  and had been waiting for this battle report.

As per usual I'll be saving it for a quiet morning with a mug of my favourite coffee.

I do hope you continue to enjoy making these videos for years to come.

Thanks Mr Tap. I was a bit fed up and hassled yesterday, thus my downbeat comment, but I do hope to continue for several years yet!

Will these stay around for people to watch in many, many years' time, do you think?
