Atomic Cafe 1957 Historicon Pictures
« on: July 20, 2009, 02:20:22 PM »
I ran Atomic Cafe 1957 on Saturday night at Historicon. The game went really well and the space I had for 9 players quickly swelled to 14 with at least half a dozen spectators at any one time.

There was mayhem and explosions, President for Life Nixon and Buddy Holly. The players had a great time. I have a couple of pictures from the game to share. I'll also be posting some more close shots of the new miniatures over on the Brigade Games forum later this week. http://brigadegms.com/forum/index.php?board=13.0 Remember, you need to register in order to view things on the Brigade forum.

So, here we go, three photos from the game.

The board set up. I apologize for the unpretty board set up. I'm still working on getting a good board together for demo games of Atomic Cafe. So I still have to go with the cloth and terrain on top. I did try and keep a unified look this time. The scenario was that President for Life Nixon's motorcade broke down in New Mexico on his way to Yorba Linda California. An attack by numerous factions forced him to hold up in the center building and wait to be "rescued" by one of them. Of course, the player who ran Nixon waited to see who looked like they would be the strongest at the end before choosing to help anyone.

Here are three of Nixon's security detail along with the man himself in the background.

Here we see one of the greaser gang squads slipping around the corner of a building. In the end, it proved to be the greaser gangs that held the upper hand. Having lost only two of their brutes and one gang member, they were in the best shape.

ON a final note, we sold through nearly all the pre-release booklets for the main book. There are only about 8 left. I'm not sure what Lon is going to do with them, but if you hop over to the Brigade forum and throw your name into the ring you may get the chance to get a copy. The booklet is $5 and includes a coupon for $5 off the rulebook when it is released later this year.

For an "unpretty" board that looks great. Not jaw-dropping maybe, but certainly good enough for a good demo/participation game.

Can't wait to see what the upgraded version looks like :D

They had a blast! Literally. Seems they discovered that when you throw the gasoline drums, they explode with a satisfying BOOM!

One of the Greaser Brutes took out 5 models with one explosion.

Buddy Holly also died in a hail of gunfire.

And the Mulberry Police got into a shooting match with a squad from the Defense force. Turned into a sniping match with each side trying to whittle the other down, completely ignoring poor President for Life Nixon.

The game looked great and "Baby Face" Johnson had things pretty tight GMing the game and had the gamers eating out of his hand. And I hope the Moose gets everyone excited too.

You're just jealous Paul. :)

The Mooseketeers are FABULOUS! How can you not want a miniature of a guy in a moose costume armed to the teeth with his gang of kids also wearing moose antler caps.

The more important question - where are his glasses? ;)

Or more importantly, does a Zombie Buddy Holly need glasses? Do near-sighted zombies have a harder time catching prey?

When are we going to see more pictures of these minis?  It seems that they're available to buy on the Brigade site, but, of course, one has no idea what one is buying.  Very annoying.

Pretty cool. You just need a Buddy Holly figure with a samurai sword being followed by a little kid.
