The basing technique is pretty standard
1. Using coins as bases
2. Superglue miniature
3. Apply filler to get an even surface
4. Apply PVA glue and dip in fine grain sand
5. Apply mix of PVA and water to fix the surface
6. Paint and drybrush
7. Apply spots of PVA and dip in green coloured ”sand” (for flower decoration purposes)
8. Repeat point 5. (Creates the ”pouring” effect
A nice thing with 40mm miniatures is that most can be based on basically the same footprint bases (25mm) as 28mm miniatures, ie they do not require much more ground space on the tabletop
