Folks,

I’m kicking off a series of posts on my classical warfare in ancient Greece project -  Hoplites…and lots of ‘em! There will be a series of posts on the topic as I work my way up to big battles forces along with mass skirmish games set during and around the time of the Great Peloponnesian War.

Please pop in, make comment if you like and enjoy.

Cheers

Enjoyed reading your blog so far. Inspired by your enthusiasm as I am currently refurbishing and rebasing my Athenian hoplites.

I am more drawn to the Greco-Persian Wars as Athens and the Delian League was more the heroic underdog. The Peloponnesian War is more of a naval war in my head.

Thanks guys,

Been away a bit and getting some painting done...next post to follow.

Some more figures finished off and now working out and finalising the optimal basing...though pretty settled on the final result here are a few of my 'experiment shots' to have a look at.

...more to follow in my next post.

...Panhellenic hoplites...

That's an interesting shield pattern that it displays when it doesn't show the picture.  Is that Hellenic?   lol

Gents,

The next post on my ancient greek hoplite series takes a look at my speed method for getting figures painted. Focusing in on the ‘big picture’ we see how they are coming along and my method for rapidly produced hoplites.

Lots of pics.

I agree.  Army Painter washes are great for Hoplites.  I was painting 30+ at a time as well using a similar method.

However, the underspraying the Spartans red was genius!
