Your ECW Re-enactment Photos
« on: April 10, 2020, 03:13:27 PM »
I posted a couple of my photos on SI's thread Not-So Merrye Englande on this board. There was some interest so I thought I would start a thread. This is for everybody to post photos of ECW re-enactment. Mainly photos which may be interesting or useful for wargamers, rather than pics of everyone up the pub afterwards!

This was taken around 1975 I think, at Powderham Castle, showing a sconce. Being a Royalist I was safely ensconced inside the sconce. This shows the frustration of one of the Roundhead officers at their inability to effect an entrance to said sconce!

This is much later than my first photo and you can see that the uniforms have improved immensely. There was a great drive for 'authenticity' in the early years. This shows us marching past St. James's Palace which was an annual event for the King's Army to commemorate the murder of the King. I am on the left wearing the monmouth cap and the straggly beard! Weapons are reversed as for a funeral parade.

Let's see what you have.   ???

ECWS, SK or Living History groups.

Three more from me...

A bit of 17th century punishment being doled out!

I had long hair (red and black sleeves) in those days. Hardly any hair left now!

Another photo of Lord Hopton's Regiment of Foote marching towards the Mall.

Perhaps he's giving the double V-sign because they have just missed him with it?   ;)

Thrse are great, not a thing ive ever done myself but ive attended a few to watch. I remember a memorable reenactment on the Naseby battlefield, I think before the building of a new road or bypass? I was only a child so may have got that wrong. It was a big event though and extremely impressive to watch.

Thanks, Sir_Theo.

This one shows how bad my uniform was in the early days. I'm on the left. This would be '74 or '75 I think. The musketeer on the right looks quite good though. Although I think his hat might have been made out of carpet underlay!

The photos of us marching down the Mall has reminded me of an event which gave me a great thrill at the time. It was the year after those pictures were taken and I was newly in command of Lord Hopton's. We had been given special permission to cross the parade ground at Horse Guards and march through the arch into Whitehall and thence onto the Banqueting Hall where a service takes place every year. As we passed through the arch at Horse Guards I ordered a general salute from the regiment, officers removing their hats, the colours were dipped and the drums beat up. To my immense surprise, the Lifeguards on sentry duty came to the 'shun and saluted our colours with their swords. An electrifying moment for me, I had only ever seen them salute the Queen before!   :)

Here we go  ::) lol

Lulworth Castle 2010 (I think).

This is me kneeling down as I pulled my lower back in a pike push and it's been dodgy ever since.

Upnor Castle 2011 (I think). Cracking little site this. On the Medway and the pub round the corner did a fantastic hog roast

Whitehall March 2011 (I know this for sure lol)

Some great photos there. A fine body of pike! ...and you can't go wrong with a pub that does a hog roast.   ;)

Were you King's Army? Which regiment were you in?

I guess the gallant and handsome chap gazing manfully into the distance in the last photo is you?

Kings Army, Rawdons.

I’m in each picture but in the last one I was waiting my turn for the whisky flask to get passed round  lol
