WW1 Undead for "Weird War One"
« on: 29 July 2009, 06:34:30 AM »
Ok, I'm not sure where to put this, so if it's wrong, I apologize...

I'm wondering if anyone has given thought to converting WW1 Zombies/Undead or other monsters for "Weird War One"; are there any castings out there that could be converted? Any sets that look the part as is? I would be most curious.

Thanks,

Doc

I was just going to use the standard early 2nd world war uniformed german zombies as the uniform is basically the same (its the pockets that are wrong) & i don't think i would do BEF as i was going to base the idea of using zombies by tweaking the Corpse Factory Myth.

Oh & Russians would be the same if they are bare headed i think.

Try cutting down the pockets on the SpyGlass WW2 german zombies (now sold by Brigade) - require very little alteration, and are already zombified!

I've been thinking about this and I've decided to just get zombies without any clothes on, like the original Eureka ones.

Without wanting to get you too excited as its a couple of months away (at least), we are planning a small range for this as I thought it would be an interesting idea and fits in with some other plans we have

I don’t know if it’s the case in English too but in French literature written on WWI, it seem to have an underlying theme of the rising of the dead soldiers either to demand who’s accountable for their deaths or haunting fellows friends or enemies.
A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://tistaminis.com/

A lot of the British myths that i have read about are of soldiers coming back to protect their former comrades or St George bringing medievil bowmen back.

Revolt of the Zombies  ( 1936)
http://www.archive.org/details/RevoltoftheZombies_

WW1 the Franco-Austrian front, the French send Cambodian troops into battle, they are unstoppable ,because they are zombies.
Interesting idea back in 1936 the film is (was?) considered dull, and the military aspect is over by around the 6th minute.  Still people might want to take a look.

How about a middle east setting - perhaps go with mummies etc rather than zombies - and pit them against Turks, Anzacs, Arabs, Lawrence etc, or factor them in on one side (German archaeologists raise unit from tombs of Troy etc - although then you're going for undead Trojans/Greeks. Babylonians could look good though.) or the other (British archaeologists find a tomb even better than Tutankhamun, but in opening it raise an undead force, or French archaeologists resurect a tomb full of dessicated crusaders). Or perhaps both sides could bring in forces from beyond ?

Egypt also has some Cthulhu connections, so they could tie in easily too.

I am sort of wiith Helen here. As if WWI was not bad enough as it is. :)

I mean, what the hell, we should just let people go about with there alternative histories and simply just screen it all for ourselves? That is at least what I am trying to do but it is a bit difficult since there seems to be a growing supply of Weird [fill in the blank].

I'm another boring old fart who finds the proliferation of bolting zombies on to every genre, and the desire to "weirdify" every period a somewhat depressing trend. It's not that I'm not into fantastical subjects, it's just the approach always seems disappointingly familiar, without much imagination applied. How can we squeeze zombies into this period, and which vehicles from it would it be easy to fit legs to? Sooner or later all our games, whatever the period, are all going to look exactly the same. We'll just have one big board for zombie-walker-steam tank gaming.  :)

I was biting my tongue, thinking "be positive, and if you have nothing positive to say then say nothing, they're not hurting anyone", but seeing as such luminaries as Helen and Hammers have chipped in, then well...
