Workin' on a chain gang
« on: May 02, 2020, 01:31:26 AM »
Hey folks, I'm using the isolation time to get started on a project that's been on my mind for a while. To that end, I'm looking for miniatures that would suit members of a chain gang:

28mm, ideally from the UK or Europe (American Shipping and all that), and if they're easily convertible to carry weapons, that'd be great.

Thanks in advance, gents.  ;)

Hmmn, a good puzzle.  I think your best bet would be to use railroad workers, Knuckleduster and Brigade both have them.  Also take a look at model railroad figures.

These look good in stripes...

But I skipped the stripes for mine. :)

Not quite the same hat though.

It is a challenge.  I've been 'cogitating' for a bit about doing the same in 15/18 mm for the American Old West.  No solution yet but I shall watch your efforts for inspiration.

Hmm, thanks for the ideas, but probably nothing I'll be using in those options.

It has got me thinking though, the shirt/jacket/trousers combination is pretty straightforward, there's probably a more straightforward option I'm overlooking.

Time to dive through some pulp/gangster/WWI ranges and see what I can come up with.  ;)

Thanks for the idea Vodkafan, I'll add them to the list.

Currently considering some civilians and drovers from Eureka's Right Bloody Mess range as the basis for conversions and 1989 Miniatures US Infantry for my armed convicts:

A chain gang would be an excellent next project for Bob Much's Pulp Figures.

Y'hear, Bob?

Very nice!

I'd like to see some guards like in Cool Hand Luke.  :-)

Woodland Scenics makes them in HO scale:

Haven't seen them in person so I don't know if they would be too big.
