WW2 Compatibility
« on: May 17, 2020, 12:38:14 PM »
Hey all,

I’ve wanted to do a weird war(ish) project for ages and have decided to get my backside in gear. The project will likely need to draw from a wide range of minis and having bought a few I see there’s a pretty wide range of sizes and proportions. Given I’m starting from scratch, what 28mm ranges should I picking from for widest range of compatibility? I’m a fan of chunky sculpts (Perry Foundry ww2, Artizan) but widest range of compatibility best - especially is compatible with Konflikt 47 and Warlord plastics.

Any help appreciated, don't want to make the mistake I made buying old west.

Perrys are not very chunky.

Okay the figure on the left was Warlord.
I would suggest the Empress Volksgrenadiers and late war British (there are late war Americans as well).

One day I will have a comparison photograph of Warlord plastics and Perry plastics.

Crusader and Artizan are your chunky types.
Lovely to paint, and still my favourite, but more modern figures are perhaps better proportions.

Thanks all - looks like there's a nice range there and if I use Artizan I can also pick from the Pulp range where appropriate.

Searching for “size comparison “ photos online is probably your best bet.

What exactly are you building for forces?  Compatible with regular WW2 late war figures?  Very sci-fi ish?

What do you have (your first post stated you bought a few) you want to add to?

Crusader and Artizan would be my go-to ranges to mix together, they fit seamlessly in my opinion and you can get almost everything you might need. You can find a lot of Black Tree Design WW2 second hand and a few of those blend in fine with the aforementioned.
All the others don't really fit together, Perrys are tiny, Paul Hick's sculpts are a bit thin for my liking, Chiltern are very large, Westwind (the original range) are 1/60 with small weapons, 1st Corps vary a bit, from what I have bought, because different sculptors ...the list goes on, but as you said you didn't want to get into your Old West situation again...
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.
