Although my attention over the last lockdown switched to other things I did manage to finish off two Spanish Colunellas but didn't post pictures at the time.  Here is my take on how they might look.  TAG Pike, Foundry Conquistador for Arquebus and Sword and Buckler men.  Flags by Pete's Flags.

As you can see the Foundry and TAG miniatures are quite different sizes, especially the Sword and Buckler men, and I think I will have to re-do these units.  :-[  Comparison shot here:

I will either use the Foundry Spanish Pike to match the others or replace the Arquebus/Swordsmen figures with TAG figures so they match.  Perhaps both so that I have different units but each unit with the same style of figures.  I am also keen to see how the forthcoming Atlantic Wargames Conquistadors look and perhaps I might be able to utilise these.  They would certainly be cheaper than Foundry who have put their prices up again.

Either way I will certainly increase the ratio of Arquebus from 8 to 12 or 16 figures in the unit.  Perhaps the best way is to use the current Arqubusiers as skirmish infantry in a separate unit.  Decisions, decisions  :? :?

Thank you both very much.

I really enjoy the vibrant colours of this period, especially the Italians and I made the assumption that any Spanish force on the Italian mainland would also deck themselves out in similar styles, especially since some of the 'Spanish' troops were actually Neopolitans.

I plan to have an Italian contingent in the army so there is scope for even more flamboyant colours. And then of course there are the Landsknechts.  So much variations in clothing styles, weapons and flags - not to mention the tactics.  What's not to like about this period. :D :D

Lovely looking Spanish! I don't think the variation is too bad between the Foundry conquistadors and TAG, although the Foundry landsknechts and Swiss are a bit closer, I'm also looking forward to the wargames Atlantic conquistadors either way you're troops look great!

After a long hiatus I have come back to this project.  This is where I left it, with two colunellas, a unit of Gendarmes and a unit of Genitors completed.

So far I have added another Colunella. All TAG figures with the banners by Pete's Flags.

Also two bases of commanders, one mounted and the other foot. I still have the flags to add to the mounted commander. Foot base are Foundry and the mounted commander by TAG.

I still need to add a few more arquebusier to the front rank of colunellas one and two but happy where this is going.

Next up will be some Archer cavalry and some light guns.

I missed this thread when it came out originally. Great looking units, well done. I'm always pleased to see Italian Wars figures, particularly TAG as I don't have any (yet!)
Would value any recommendations you have for command groups, both mounted and on foot
Since you started Artizan Spanish have come out , do you plan on adding any?

I hadn't noticed the Artizan Design Spanish figures until you pointed them out.  Not sure how they would look against the TAG figures.  I do have some of their Landsknechts so at a guess a little chunkier than TAG and Perry but less bulky than the Foundry Conquistador figures.  I might buy some artillerymen and see how they look.

If they go well I might add an extra colunella made up with all Artizan figures but that will not be for a while as I have a whole load of other figures trying to push their way to the front of the painting queue.

As to command groups, TAG provide a couple for each of their ranges mostly with either 2 cavalry and a dismounted figure or occasionally with 3 mounted figures.  For dismounted command all ranges provide 3-4 command figures that would work as a command group on their own or included in the unit.  The key for me is something different with plenty of colour and flags.
